Early this week, my cousins, some friends and I went to the Dahilayan Adventure Park in Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon. Just in case you still do not know, Dahilayan Adventure Park is home to Asia's longest dual cable zipline --- all 840 meters of it! The Bukidnon zipline adventure park is also 4,500 meters above sea level so the climate there's pretty cold :) Anyways, I'll tell you more about my recent trip to this Bukidnon tourist spot in another post. If you want to see what went down during my first visit to Dahilayan Bukidnon zipline, though, you might want to read THIS. What I want to share now are some of the photos this Mindanao photographer took during a stopover at the Municipality of Impasugong, Bukidnon. Impasugong is about an hour and a half away from Manolo Fortich. It's a fi...

Color Me Badd. All 4 One. I literally waited decades before it happened. And when it finally did, I forgot all the questions that I wanted to ask All 4 One and Color Me Badd for the longest time. I just simply enjoyed every moment I spent with them, did not hesitate to let them know that I was a certified fan, became their self-appointed paparazzi for the day, screamed at the top of my lungs, danced onstage (gulp!) and told them again and again just how loved they all were, still are and always will be! And - get this - I spent time again with them a few days later, got autographs and a special video message from All 4 One and Color Me Badd for all my beloved readers! Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus! BUT!!! I’m getting way ahead of myself. Ch-ch-check out my big All 4 One and Colo...

This is one very interesting documentary that we all should watch. Dokyu5, a program that airs via TV5 Manila, will feature the state of water resources in the Philippines and the looming crisis. I'm interested with this because one of the localities that will be featured is my very own hometown in Mindanao --- Davao City! So fellow Dabawenyos, manan-aw gyud ta ani! DOKYU5’s Huling Patak Ulat ni Luchi Cruz-Valdes airs this Sunday (August 28) on TV5 Manila. Please check which channel TV5 airs in your own area. In Davao, it's Channel 29. An archipelago, the Philippines is surrounded by bodies of water. Yet, by 2025, experts predict a severe water shortage in the country. The rapid increase in population, urbanization and industrialization has reduced the quantity and affected the quality ...

I'm a certified Dabawenya (from Davao City) and although I can say that there are a lot of projects going on at my hometown (two of which are the Abreeza Mall, which managed to gather millions of people during the Kadayawan Festival 2011 celebration, and the Abreeza Residences, which according to reports will be adjacent to Kukun Hotel Davao City and a few meters away from Abreeza Mall), Cagayan de Oro City is where the action is these days, in my humble opinion. It's the most booming city in Mindanao and the most logical reason I could think of is the fact that the long-awaited Laguindingan International Airport is about to be finished. You know how it is --- once an international airport starts its operations, you'd know for sure that there will be more tourists, more business opportu...

Kadayawan Festival 2011 Access Pass guidelines

Mindanaoan Update
It's Kadayawan Festival 2011 season in Davao City, Mindanao these days. Unfortunately, if you think you can just take your award-winning photos especially during the Indak Indak sa Kadalanan Parade (street dancing) or the Pamulak (floral float parade) just like that, then you're in for a big surprise. This year, the Kadayawan Festival 2011 organizers (Duaw Davao Festival Foundation) have drawn new guidelines for...hold your breath...an access pass. Something pretty similar to what the Sinulog organizers in Cebu have done/are doing. I'm not sure if Davao is ready for this, though. Anyways, please read and kindly share your comments/thoughts about this below: MEDIA If you are affiliated with a media network: 1. The 3rd Silver Linings forum on breast cancer in Davao City

Advocacy, Davao City, Events, Society
As far as I know, no one in my clan has ever been diagnosed with breast cancer. I am, of course, extremely grateful for that. My mom did tell me, though, that there were instances when some of our female relatives reported to have felt lumps but these turned out to be benign tumors. However, just because I don't know (or I'm not related to) someone who has breast cancer should not stop me (and all of us, really) to advocate breast cancer prevention. After all, breast cancer is said to be the leading cause of cancer deaths among Filipino women. Thankfully, an educational forum cum homecoming for breast cancer survivors will be held in my hometown Davao City. Silver Linings, dubbed as "every breast cancer survivor's favorite event," will be held on September 17, 2011 at the Grand Regal...

The invitation came a few weeks after my brother, cousins and I flew to Singapore and Malaysia (yes, yes, I flew there again :) If you guys remember, I treated my mom to a special mother-daughter trip abroad last February 2011) aboard --- quite coincidentally --- Airphil Express :) It was an invitation that was very hard to turn down --- it was a chance for me to be on board the special maiden flight of Airphil Express' Cebu to Hong Kong route! Yes, folks, Airphil Express now has Cebu to Hong Kong flights! Now, Hong Kong is more accessible not only for people in the Visayas but for fellow Mindanaoans as well. I'm pretty excited with this Hong Kong trip. This will be my third time in beauti...

If there are two things that I absolutely like, these are Mexican and Italian food. I'm a huge sucker for fajitas, quesadillas, tacos...and oh yes, yes, yes nachos! Yum! I am absolutely convinced that I can survive on nachos alone :D I love nachos so much that I made a special trip to a specific restaurant just to order nachos de salsa. I also love nachos with oozing melted cheese! Yeah, that's how crazeballs I can get when it comes to nachos :P I like pasta, too. There are days when I just crave for spaghetti, penne al arrabiatta, fettuccini with red sauce, basil and mushrooms and carbonara complete with bacon and mushrooms. Yum! So, yes, anytime I have my share of Mexican and Italian food, I know for sure it's gonna be a great day. So you could just imagine how excited I was when I he...

CBCP statement on alleged PCSO funds used for Bishops SUV luxury vehicles

Butuan, Commentary, Controversial, Headline, Mindanaoan Update, Musings, News, Opinion
I'm printing below the full text of the statement released by the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines with regard to the recent controversies alleging that some PCSO funds were given to Bishops (one of them Butuan, Mindanao Bishop Juan de Dios Pueblos). Bishop Pueblos reportedly wrote to former Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, asking for an SUV (a Montero Sport worth Php 1.7 Million) that can "comfortably seat" 6-10 people as a...get this..."birthday gift." Makes you wonder why Bishop Pueblos has been criticizing incumbent President Noynoy Aquino. I will share my thoughts about this issue in a separate blog post. Suffice it to say that I am sad, very disappointed and angry. For now, please feel free to read the statement below and kindly share this with eve...
