One of the things that I really like doing is helping and supporting small and medium businesses especially local ones. This is the reason why I readily accepted the role of Google Business Group - Women lead coordinator. Being the GBG Women CDO lead allows me to share various strategies and tips especially on how to effectively use the Internet to promote businesses online.
GBG Women is under the umbrella of GBG CDO, a community of business professionals helping people explore, learn, share, and discover how Google products can help the local business communities benefit from technology. GBG CDO is a local chapter under Google Business Group - Philippines.
One of the recent activities the GBG CDO folks and I got involved in was the Google My Business CDO orientation and sign-up day ...

And with the elections coming up, we also plan to use our own online mechanisms...

The year 2013 has truly been a good year for me, especially in terms of my passion for blogging and social media. Aside from being tapped as a resource speaker during social media day, national social media summits, Google events like GDayX and the like, I also garnered some awards. Last October 2013, this Mindanao blogger bagged not only the Best Lifestyle Blog award but the most coveted Mindanao Blogger of the Year 2013 recognition!
And just last night, December 29, 2013, luck was again on my side. During the CDO Bloggers Awards 2013, I received two awards including the Most Active CDO Bloggers Member of the Year plaque!
Thank you very much to my CDO Bloggers family! Truly honored and grateful! Daghang salamat :)
It still feels a bit surreal, truth be told. Winning the 2013 Mindanao Blogger Of The Year award and the Best Lifestyle Blog award during the Mindanao Blog Awards 2013 held last October 26, 2013 in Davao City was the farthest thing from my mind. I was there to meet my blogger friends, have a good time, maybe drink a cocktail or two and cheer for other finalists. My mindset that night was (and I actually wrote this days before the finals):
Win or lose, you are a champ. What's important is that you did your best in letting more people understand and appreciate the power of social media and blogging in sparking more conversations, making better communities and harnessing better understanding. Social good, folks. Only the good.
So when my name was called, you could just imagine my shock. Yup...

Maria Ressa, formerly of ABS CBN and now CEO of Rappler.com, will be the keynote speaker.
If you listen to the news on Mindanao, the most likely reaction is that you’ll hesitate to come here. Much less choose to live here. But given the direness of the news on the peace and order situation here, have you ever wondered if there are perks to living in Mindanao? Actually, what’s so terrible in the news is merely a microcosm of Mindanao society. Given the largeness of the island and the number of regions, cities, and cultures that are found in Mindanao, you might want to take the news with a grain of salt the next time.
Mindanao is generally a peaceful place. The members of the populace are satisfied with their lives, and commerce and trade are smoothly moving along. The economics show a due representation from the filthy rich to poverty level poor, but people manage to get by. ...
It's official, folks! :)
I have been chosen by the U.S. Department of State to visit the United States of America as a participant in the International Visitor Leadership Program or IVLP. I will leave for the U.S. on March 3, 2012 and will stay there until the first week of April 2012 :)
Actually, the program that I will be a part of will only run for 3 weeks but I plan to stay a bit more to savor the sights and sounds of the USA. During the 3-week program, I will visit Washington, Orlando Florida, Salt Lake City Utah and Portland Oregon. I plan to visit New York and Virginia as well :)
Do any of you guys out there live in these areas? I would love to meet you! :) Let me know through the comments section below.

Hi folks, may I warmly invite you all to visit the newest all-day breakfast place to open for business in Cagayan de Oro City - Happy Eggs CDO!
Before anything else, please allow me to quickly offer you guys 3 reasons as to why you should come and visit Happy Eggs CDO:
1. their "silog" meals all have TWO EGGS cooked just the way you like them! (sunny side up, scrambled etc)
2. the price points are really very affordable (their baconsilog, for instance, is only Php 70! Yup, juicy and delicious bacon, a generous serving of rice and two eggs for only Php 70!)
3. they have quite the interesting menu! (where else can you find an eatery that serves dried fish such as pinikas and red sal and even pansit canton? Aaah, we all crave for BULAD sometimes, don't we? :) Plus - talk about bud...
I've been tweeting about Typhoon Sendong since yesterday, Saturday, December 17, 2011. You can see my Mindanaoan Twitter account here --- http://www.twitter.com/mindanaoan
So much have happened ever since I woke up yesterday. Survived strong rains and winds, endured hours of brownout, found out that we didn't have water supply, found out that our humble house in Cagayan de Oro City also got damaged and that we have no choice but to face business losses. Still, my family and I have so much to be thankful for. All of us are safe. And all of us are alive and able to help out those in need.
If you also want to do your share and help the victims of Typhoon Sendong (International Name: Tropical Storm Washi) in Cagayan de Oro City and Iligan City, Mindanao (where more than 500 persons are f...
I know, I know...this is a super delayed post. My apologies! I've been traveling a whole lot the past few days and I've also been very busy with some projects (more on these later). I do know, however, that I absolutely must write about this, no matter how briefly.
My humble blog, Mindanaoan.com, was a NATIONAL FINALIST in the recently concluded 2011 Philippine Blog Awards! YEY! :D
After being nominated in the Philippine Blog Awards 2011 - Mindanao, this Mindanao lifestyle blog was also declared as one of the finalists for the lifestyle category - national level.

Thank you very much to all of my readers, subscribers, supporters, sponsors and of course to the Philippine Blog Awards for recognizing my efforts :) Daghang salamat!
If you guys remember, Mindanaoan.com bagged the Best Lifestyle Blog for Mindanao award last year during the 2010 Philippine Blog Awards :) A lot of people sent in their congratulatory messages at the time including Senator Kiko Pangilinan :) Unfortunately, I was not able to accept my award in person. Let's see if I get lucky this year ;)
By the way, because of my nomination to the 2011 Philippine Blog Awards for Mindanao, I now have an invit...
Happy 3rd anniversary to the Cagayan de Oro Bloggers or CDO Bloggers! I've been blessed to have met really great friends through this bloggers group so of course I had to celebrate their big 3rd birthday with them :)
Okay, technically I'm not from CDO so technically I'm not supposed to be a part of the group but I'm an "honorary" member and the group members love me so there :P
Seriously, I feel very comfortable spending time with this group because I learn a lot from them. I also absolutely love the fact that there's hardly any CDO Bloggers gathering that's not laced with a ton of laughter! These guys are, hands down, truly cool :)
So cheers to you CDO Bloggers! Thank you for the fun times! Here's to more years of fun, fab friendship!

Is Mindanao Philippines ready for another Hollywood film shooting? Which area or areas in Mindanao can easily be a great location for the next big Hollywood movie?
I can't help but think about these after I read that Jeremy Renner, Rachel Weisz and a couple of other Hollywood actors and actresses are set to arrive in Manila, Philippines early next year for the shooting of "The Bourne Legacy."
According to the Film Development Council of the Philippines, "Bourne Legacy" will shoot scenes in Manila, Philippines by January 2012. The movie is set for release sometime August 2012. "The Bourne Legacy" also stars Rachel Weisz, Albert Finney and...get this...Edward Norton! (I just love, love, love Edward Norton!)
Forty year old Jeremy Renner (of "Hurt Locker" fame and a two time Oscar Awa...
Color Me Badd. All 4 One. I literally waited decades before it happened. And when it finally did, I forgot all the questions that I wanted to ask All 4 One and Color Me Badd for the longest time. I just simply enjoyed every moment I spent with them, did not hesitate to let them know that I was a certified fan, became their self-appointed paparazzi for the day, screamed at the top of my lungs, danced onstage (gulp!) and told them again and again just how loved they all were, still are and always will be! And - get this - I spent time again with them a few days later, got autographs and a special video message from All 4 One and Color Me Badd for all my beloved readers! Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus!
BUT!!! I’m getting way ahead of myself. Ch-ch-check out my big All 4 One and Colo...

It's been more than 2 weeks since their highly successful Cagayan de Oro, Philippines show but this Filipina travel and lifestyle blogger is still buzzin'! Yes, folks, I'm still on a high! :D
As you guys may know, Mindanaoan.com was an official media partner of the All 4 One and Color Me Badd back-to-back concert last September 10, 2011 at the Atrium of the Limketkai Center in Cagayan de Oro City, Mindanao, Philippines. It was a major thing for a certified fan like myself --- not only did I get to meet the boys up close and personal (OMG!!!), spend time with them and see their real, offstage personas, I also had the chance to gather autographs, take lots of photos and...*drum roll please*...meet them again in Manila before they flew out for Los Angeles! *cartwheels*
I will share with...
A few months ago, I organized a fun-filled and very successful Mozilla Firefox 4 launch party in the Province of Bukidnon, Mindanao. It was the very first one of its kind in the province and I'm mighty proud to say that I helped make it possible. With the generous help of Mozilla, other sponsors and of course, with the very good attendance of nearly 30 participants (Yay! :D), the event was a huge success. Mozilla Philippines even featured the event on their own website.
That Mozilla Firefox launch party proved to be something more than just a tech event. A few months later, I found out that Mozilla was in need of official reps. Mozilla launched the Mozilla Reps program, a program designed to make it easy for passionate Mozillians, all over the world, to organize/attend Mozilla events an...
