Alaxan, Puerto locals team up to build Court of Inspiration in CDO

Alaxan FR and local residents of Barangay Puerto, Cagayan de Oro City, Mindanao have teamed up to build a "Court of Inspiration," a project that aims to not only to highlight the importance of sports development in a community, the spirit of volunteerism and corporate social responsibility but also to even encourage people to change the way they should look at pain. Under the "Court of Inspiration" project, a community basketball court will be constructed. Alaxan FR will provide the materials while the residents and other volunteers from the barangay will do a "bayanihan" and will work together to build it. As I previously mentioned to you all, Mindanaoan.com is an official media partner for the Miss Kagay-an 2012 beauty pageant, which is one of the core events for the Kagay-an Festival 2012, the annual fiesta in Cagayan de Oro City in honor of patron Saint Augustine. It's time for the Kagay-an Festival 2012! The Cagayan de Oro City Government has released the schedule of activities for the 2012 Kagay-an Festival. The Kagay-an Festival 2012 or the Cagayan de Oro Festival 2012 will be held in commemoration of the feast of patron Saint Augustine. This year, the Kagay-an Festival activities will be handled by the local government unit unlike in previous years when Promote CDO Foundation handled the task. It truly was an honor to be that up close and personal with the American ambassador, who I found to be very smart, direct and friendly. As a part of his party when he visited Cagayan de Oro City for the very first time last week, I got the chance to accompany him in various events. During his recent visit to Cagayan de Oro, US Ambassador Harry K. Thomas, Jr. led the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Cagayan de Oro City LGU. The MOU was for the launch of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID)'s Cities Development Initiative. Ambassador Thomas, USAID Mission Director Gloria D. Steele and Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Vicente Y. Emano all signed the MOU last Friday, June 29, 2012 at a local hotel in Cagayan de Oro. Just last week, this humble blogger in Mindanao was granted a chance of a lifetime - to be able to accompany U.S. Ambassador to the Philippines Harry K. Thomas, Jr. for two days! It's official, folks! :) I have been chosen by the U.S. Department of State to visit the United States of America as a participant in the International Visitor Leadership Program or IVLP. I will leave for the U.S. on March 3, 2012 and will stay there until the first week of April 2012 :) Actually, the program that I will be a part of will only run for 3 weeks but I plan to stay a bit more to savor the sights and sounds of the USA. During the 3-week program, I will visit Washington, Orlando Florida, Salt Lake City Utah and Portland Oregon. So as we all know, the Department of Tourism launched a new tourism logo and slogan --- "It's more fun in the Philippines"! But for Typhoon Sendong (international name: Washi) victims in Cagayan de Oro City, Iligan City and Dumaguete, things weren't exactly "fun" ever since the December 16, 2011 floods. To date, more than 1,400 people have died in CDO alone and hundreds more are still missing. In Iligan and Dumaguete, it's the same scenario. Lots of lost lives, damaged properties and broken dreams. Slowly but surely, however, things are picking up, thanks to selfless volunteers and generous souls. For weeks, so many relief operations were launched. Then rehabilitation efforts. Typhoon Sendong (international name: Washi) claimed thousands of lives, left tens of thousands of homes damaged (some damaged beyond repair, some totally wiped out) and basically left so much destruction in Cagayan de Oro and Iligan - two cities in Northern Mindanao, Philippines. Both cities are still trying to cope - so much still needs to be done. Still, I'm happy to share with you all that amid ongoing relief and rehabilitation operations, there also are movements from various sectors of society to REBUILD both cities. Sendong Run For Home – all registration fees to go to Give A Home project

Are you a runner? Are you an avid running enthusiast? There's a running event in Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines that you may just be interested in! This CDO running event is set to benefit Typhoon Sendong victims. The Sendong Run For A Home event is set to take place on January 28, 2012, 6 PM at SM City CDO. There will be two categories - 2K and 5K. Registration fee is only Php 200.00 and ALL registration fees will be donated to the "Give A Home Project." Coach Rio Dela Cruz will be there!
