Revisiting the Monastery of Transfiguration in Malaybalay City, Bukidnon

I had the chance to revisit the Monastery of Transfiguration last weekend. Located in Malaybalay City, Bukidnon, the Monastery of Transfiguration, also known as the Benedictine Transfiguration Monastery, is my most favorite spiritual refuge. It's an ideal place to visit in Mindanao, Philippines if you want to go on a spiritual retreat. The centerpiece of the Monastery of Transfiguration is this popular cone-shaped chapel, designed by the late National Artist for Architecture Leandro Locsin. There's a dress code that you need to follow before you enter the chapel, please. If you find yourself alone in the church, consider yourself very lucky. Historic: Bananas exported to America from Mindanao

This is truly something not only Mindanaoans but all Filipinos around the world should be proud of! The Philippines has finally completed its first ever shipment of highland cavendish bananas to the USA, making it the first Asian country to do so. And yes, these bananas, which will be marketed under the Sweetio brand, are from Bukidnon, Mindanao! :) Here's more - the Bukidnon bananas were shipped last August 20, 2013 from the Mindanao International Container Terminal in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental, Mindanao! The Philippine Embassy said that the maiden shipment, composed of 7.047 metric tons Bukidnon cavendish bananas, arrived at the Port of Long Beach near Los Angeles last September 9, 2013. I met Titus John Monterde (or TJ Monterde) in Cagayan de Oro several years ago. He was friends with my brother Bon and we had a lot of mutual friends as well. This statement was sent to Mindanaoan: On Saturday night, my mother, Ruthie de Lara-Guingona, who is in her 70s and concluding a third term in office this year as mayor of Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental, was ambushed on her way home from a fiesta in the city’s outskirts. She was wounded but her driver and security escort did not make it. Brothers Nestor and Bartolome Velasco were killed due to a hail of bullets on board the Hi-Lux pick-up she was riding. Laguindingan International Airport To Open On April 2013

UPDATE: The opening has been deferred to JUNE 15, 2013 although it must be emphasized that the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines - Northern Mindanao office has YET to receive a formal, official order from Malacanan Palace. Finally! The most-awaited opening of the Laguindingan International Airport will finally be held on April 30, 2013. This, according to Philippine President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III himself. Sendong Memorial In Iligan City

Hard to believe but yes, it's been a year since that deadly Typhoon Sendong (international name: Washi). Typhoon Sendong claimed more than 1,000 lives and to this date, more than 500 people remain missing. Yesterday, December 17, 2012, a group came up with a Sendong Memorial Wall in Cagayan de Oro City, one of the two major cities that got hit by Typhoon Sendong. The Sendong Memorial Wall in CDO was made of Romblon marble and had the names of those who died and those who remain missing. Today, I found out that a Sendong Memorial in Iligan City was also unveiled last December 17, 2012. A creation by artist Julie Lluch, this masterfully crafted bronze sculpture depicts a little girl riding a log. The girl was one of the survivors of Typhoon Sendong.
