GMA 7, QTV, Radio GMA rate cards – airtime prices

Advocacy, Broadcasting, Business, Consumer, Controversial, Corporate, Features, Headline, Journalism, Media, Mindanaoan Update
With all the hoopla over the upcoming May 2010 elections, Mindanaoan is sure that a lot of you out there are interested to know --- exactly how much does a national candidate have to pay for radio and television airtime? Remember, if you're running a national campaign, you should also tap the regional and local radio and TV channels, right? So if you're paying P100,000 per 30 seconds for ONE time airing, exactly how much do you pay not only for regular airing via national TV but via regional and local radio outlets, too? Mindanaoan got a hold of the latest rate cards (airtime prices) of GMA Channel 7, QTV Channel and Radio GMA (DZBB, DWLS, DZBB Super Radyo). The rate cards below even specify how much it would cost if you place your ad by program. For instance, it costs P475,200.00 fo...

List of journalists killed in the brutal Ampatuan massacre

Commentary, Crime, Headline, Maguindanao, Media, Mindanaoan Artists, Mindanaoan Update, Musings, News, Opinion, Personal
First of all, we should not call it "Maguindanao Massacre" anymore. We should now call it "Ampatuan Massacre." Ampatuan is the specific place where the mass graves were found. Maguindanao is the province here in Mindanao. Secondly, to fellow journalists out there (especially those from Luzon) who make the constant mistake of treating Mindanao as one "lawless island," (come on, you know who you are!) please...please be extra careful. Maguindanao IS NOT Mindanao. Mindanaoans like myself have been doing our best to help keep our place peaceful and safe. Unfortunately, like any other area, there are people who refuse to obey the law and think that they are above it. These people do not represent the entire island of Mindanao. One tiny yet misleading description of our island can re...

Press statement: Union of Peoples’ Lawyers in Mindanao on Maguindanao massacre

Announcements, Broadcasting, Controversial, Crime, Headline, Journalism, Media, Mindanaoan Update, Muslim Mindanao
The Union of Peoples’ Lawyers in Mindanao (UPLM) condemns in the strongest possible terms the brutal murder of scores of civilians in Datu Abdullah Sangki town in Maguindanaoin, a bloody start for the 2010 elections. Among the hapless victims were UPLM treasurer Concepcion “Connie” Brizuela and UPLM member Cynthia Oquendo. Authorities claimed the victims were reportedly abducted by some 100 armed. They were accompanying the wife of Buluan Vice Mayor Ishmael “Toto” Mangudadatu , Genalyn, whose group was on their way to file her husband’s certificate of candidacy for Maguindanao governor at the Commission on Elections office in Shariff Aguak town, Maguindanao. This barbaric mass murder not only indicates the early onset of pre-election violence, but, also shows that the culture of impu...

I must admit, I'm not a huge fan of Starstruck, GMA 7's reality artista-based search. In fact, I haven't watched a single episode of this reality TV show in its entirety but I am familiar with some of its alumni - Jennylyn Mercado, Mark Herras, LJ Reyes and Katrina Halili. Things may change soon, though, since I just learned that there are several Mindanaoans in the top 60 of Starstruck's latest season, Starstruck V. Our Pambansang Kamao, world boxing champ Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao, recently guested over at Jimmy Kimmel Live! Jimmy Kimmel Live! is a late night talk show aired over at ABC in the U.S. and hosted by...who else...funny man Jimmy Kimmel himself. I was able to watch Manny Pacquiao's interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live! via a video sent to me by a friend in the U.S. If you want to check out the transcription I made, check out my Twitter account for my blow-by-blow account :) In my opinion, Filipino boxing champ Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao had a good time --- in fact, he never stopped smiling and laughing all throughout the interview! Pacman also shared fun statements during the interview. He said things like he has a dog named Pacman, his superhero character "Wapakman" has a lot of superpowers, t...

Daghang salamat! :) And to all of the participants of the MBS CDO, enjoy :) For official press releases of the recently concluded Mindanao...

Today, October 15, 2009, is Blog Action Day 2009. Blog Action Day is an annual event held every October 15 that aims to unite all the bloggers of the world and encourage them to post about the same issue on the very same day. This, in the hope to ignite discussions about that particular issue and to inspire people to take action. This year, the topic for Blog Action Day 2009 is Climate Change. I, Mindanaoan, am joining thousands of other Pinoy bloggers for the Blog Action Day 2009 - Philippines Edition. And we Filipinos of all people know very well just how devastating the effects of climate change are. After our harrowing experience with tropical storms Ondoy (international name: Ketsana) and Pepeng (international name: Parma), we should no longer put this issue of climate change a...

I think these days, more than ever, we Filipinos need to promote our country. Despite the devastation caused by Tropical Storm Ondoy (international code name: Ketsana), we have all seen the spirit of unity and camaraderie in times of crisis. It may take a long time before we can finally recover but we will get there. We just need prayers, political will and unity. May this "Take You To The Philippines" music video by Black Eyed Peas member and fellow Pinoy Apl de Ap inspire you all. It's reportedly part of the tourism campaign of Sec. Ace Durano and the Department of Tourism. No mention of a Mindanao city in the song but it's aight :) I like this pretty catchy ditty :) Enjoy! p.s. Congratulations and thank you to Apl de Ap and to the Black Eyed Peas. Congratulations to Sec. Ace, t...

Mindanaoan still can't concentrate well. As much as I want to work and attend to various other matters, I still can't help but log on to Twitter via Tweetdeck (which I highly recommend that you Twitter-holics use, by the way) and check how the search and rescue as well as the relief goods distribution efforts for Typhoon Ondoy victims are doing. I keep on retweeting helpful information as much as I can and it warms my heart to see so many private citizens doing their share in helping the victims. Interestingly, though, I received a comment today in my "Advertise" page from a person who calls himself "ew." I reckon he's from Luzon. Even though we're here in Mindanao, it is still our duty as Filipinos to help out. So please, I want to enjoin you all to please donate. The victims of Typhoon Ondoy need all the help they can get. You can donate through these measures: Donate to the Red Cross Rescue and Relief Operations. Te...
