Meeting the CDO Bloggers group

MINDANAO - I'm currently in Cagayan de Oro City, Mindanao and just got back from a pretty fruitful meeting with some of the members of the CDO Bloggers group. Mindanaoan joined their regular officers' meeting and pitched in some of my thoughts for the upcoming Mindanao Bloggers Summit 3, which will be held in Cagayan de Oro City come October 24, 2009. The meeting was held at one of the coffee shops here in the City of Golden Friendship. I found the CDO Bloggers to be very friendly and warm. They also welcomed new ideas and suggestions. Muziklaban 2009 na! The much-awaited Red Horse Muziklaban 2009 is bigger and better this time around. Muziklaban is an annual rock band competition wherein the winning band gets the chance to win, among others, P1 Million. The Red Horse Muziklaban Rock Challenge 2009 is now open for registration and various audition opportunities are slowly kicking off. MINDANAO - Looks like the Philippine Blog Awards (PBA) 2009 is underway! Based on PBA organizer Jayvee Fernandez's post in the PBA website, this year's awards ceremony will take place on October 9, 2009 at the Megatent Events Venue located at 30 Meralco Avenue, Bgy. Ugong, Pasig City. Pretty exciting! Last year, a fellow Mindanao blogger, Batang Yagit, garnered the Bloggers' Choice Award. Let's hope another Mindanaoan wins in this year's PBA! I like promos that do not only advocate services or products but also encourage participation in a worthy cause. Waiting for my Google Adsense check…it’s a week late!

Don't you just hate to wait? Especially if you're waiting for some moolah? I'm supposed to receive a Google Adsense check but it's been a week and I haven't received anything in the mail yet. I checked my Adsense account and it was stated that a check was issued last April 28, 2009 (which means that given 4 weeks delivery time, it should have arrived last May 28, 2009!) This is exactly why I can hardly trust the Philippine Post Office anymore! To make matters worse, I did a little research a few hours ago and found a blog post about this guy who complained that his Google Adsense check was encashed by a stranger! Are you willing to pay P6,000 to the Philippine government just so you can blog?

Because this seems to be the case if ever a proposal dubbed "Guidelines on the Provision of Contents, Information, Applications and Electronic Games" lodged before the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) pushes through. Now, how does this affect Mindanaoan bloggers or content providers here in the Philippines, you ask? This controversial proposal, when loosely translated, would mean that the Philippine government wants to require people to hold licenses in order to create or post content online. And, of course, there will be corresponding fees and charges. Under the proposal, a filing fee of P300.00 shall be imposed and an annual registration fee of P6,000.00.
