Grand opening of Pulse Music Club Malaybalay Bukidnon

Announcements, Bukidnon, Entertainment, Events, Malaybalay City, Music, Society
Pulse Music Club is perhaps the longest-standing live music venue and dance club in Cagayan de Oro City. So it wasn't much of a surprise that when I started sharing news that Pulse has plans of opening a branch in Malaybalay City, Bukidnon (which is about 2 hours away from CDO), a TON of people really got excited over the news. Read: Bukidnon Online - for the latest Bukidnon news Along with friends from the Bukidnon Bloggers, I got invited to the grand opening of Pulse Music Club Malaybalay last July 25, 2014. Located at Tabios Street corner Moreno Street, Pulse Music Club Malaybalay was jampacked that night! There were guest DJs, Pulse house ledge dancers, house DJs and a host who made sure that the crowd was entertained until the wee hours of the night. Thanks so...

When I got that invitation to experience the Sarangani Bay Festival 2014 a few days ago, I was supposed to fly from CDO to Davao (a half hour flight) then take the bus from Davao to General Santos City (a 3-hour ride). Unfortunately, the airline had other plans - they postponed the flight to FOUR days AFTER my supposed arrival (which also meant that the festival already wrapped up by then!) due to "aircraft situation." Ergo, I had no other choice but to take the bus all the way from Cagayan de Oro to GenSan. It was a long and arduous trip but still worth it - I was, after all, heading to Sarangani for the biggest beach festival in Mindanao! I will no longer name the airline but here's a clue - they love playing games. And they played one on me! Anyways, I will share more about my SarBay...

This Mindanao blogger was in Malaybalay City, Bukidnon last weekend for a cousin's wedding. Incidentally, it was also my birthday (HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MEEE! :D) but since I decided to forego my birthday celebration, (will just continue raising funds for my various advocacies and charity work) I instead volunteered to be one of the wedding photographers :) Anyway, a day after the wedding, a few of my cousins and a friend visited a fairly new restaurant in Malaybalay - a rodeo-themed steak house in a ranch setting. Ranchers Steak House, located along Diversion Road, Malaybalay City, serves mostly Western cuisine. Read more about Ranchers Steak House food choices here. Here are some of the photos I took during our visit at Ranchers Steakhouse Malaybalay Bukidnon: ...

Former Senator and 3-term Bukidnon congressman Juan Miguel "Migs" Zubiri says he is quitting politics and will now just devote his time on being a businessman. Zubiri, who served as Bukidnon 3rd District representative for 3 consecutive terms and became Senate Majority Leader, recently launched a business venture in Bukidnon. He told Mindanaoan.com that he is "no longer interested in politics." "I have decided to invest my time and finances in the province that I love," he said. His latest business venture is an ice plant in Malaybalay City, the capital of Bukidnon, called Z-Ice Purified Ice. His father, Bukidnon Governor Jose Zubiri, Jr., wife Audrey and Malaybalay City local officials were present during the ribbon cutting ceremony. Zubiri's statement comes amid rampant chatt...

Bukidnon, Food, Mindanaoan Update, Northern Mindanao, Reviews, Society
A lot of people who get the chance to visit the famed Bukidnon tourist spot - the clubhouse at Del Monte Golf and Country Club, Manolo Fortich - almost always rave about the steaks there. Undoubtedly, the steaks served at Del Monte Golf and Country Club are really good - the fact that they get meat from pineapple-fed cattle already tells you that the steaks there are worth every penny. However, there are also other food choices you might want to try the next time you visit this Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon tourist destination. Of course, there's the bottomless Del Monte pineapple juice. For only Php 35.00 per person, you can drink ice cold pineapple juice to your heart's content. The Del Monte baconsilog - bacon, sinangag (fried rice) and egg. The clubhouse serves all-day breakfa...

How to enjoy coffee and help reforest Mindanao

I just love receiving (and later on, buying for myself) gifts that I know support a local community, especially an indigenous tribe. I love supporting groups that have products made especially by indigenous people in Mindanao. One of the products that I now fervently support and promote is Hineleban Coffee. I first received it as a corporate gift last Christmas 2013 from Centrio Ayala Mall. Look at the Instagram photo I posted. You can also see the card that featured Jaime Zobel de Ayala's photos. Anyway, the gift I got came in a 500 gram (half kilo) bag of 100% highland premium arabica coffee produced by Hineleban Foundation. Now what makes Hineleban Coffee truly special, you ask? It's coffee that doesn't only taste good, it also helps reforest Mindanao! You see, Hinel...

Kaamulan Festival 2014 in Bukidnon moved

Announcements, Bukidnon, Culture, Events, Tourism
The Kaamulan Festival 2014 in Bukidnon will now be celebrated the entire month of August. In the past few years, Bukidnon celebrates Kaamulan Festival every end of February to March 10, supposedly the day the province celebrates its founding anniversary. However, the Provincial Government of Bukidnon has recently passed a resolution stating that the founding anniversary should be celebrated every September. To clarify, however, Kaamulan Festival has been celebrated every August before. So I guess this development is more like a "homecoming" (to the original date!) of sorts :) The culmination of the 2014 Kaamulan Festival will be held on September 1. Highlight during that day will be the streetdancing competition, where all 20 municipalities and 2 cities of Bukidnon will send continge...

It still feels a bit surreal, truth be told. Winning the 2013 Mindanao Blogger Of The Year award and the Best Lifestyle Blog award during the Mindanao Blog Awards 2013 held last October 26, 2013 in Davao City was the farthest thing from my mind. I was there to meet my blogger friends, have a good time, maybe drink a cocktail or two and cheer for other finalists. My mindset that night was (and I actually wrote this days before the finals): Win or lose, you are a champ. What's important is that you did your best in letting more people understand and appreciate the power of social media and blogging in sparking more conversations, making better communities and harnessing better understanding. Social good, folks. Only the good. So when my name was called, you could just imagine my shock. Yup...

Milk tea and art deco lovers in Bukidnon - rejoice! My friends and I recently discovered this quaint little milk tea cafe called Art at Cha in Malaybalay City, Bukidnon. Actually, our dear friend Jacquee told us about it. She's a regular customer of a nail lounge just beside this Malaybalay Bukidnon milk tea shop. So after we visited the Monastery of Transfiguration, we all trooped to Art at Cha, located along CM Recto Street, Malaybalay City. The place is fairly new - nice chairs, a nook with a comfortable couch and fancy lighting. Art at Cha is full of art deco stuff, paintings, figurines and ceramic souvenirs and there's even an entire shelf full of art deco stuff for sale. Of course, you can't just go to Art at Cha and not try their milk teas. I had the caramel milk tea (Php 70 f...

Monastery of Transfiguration Malaybalay Bukidnon: 3 things to do

I recently revisited the Monastery of Transfiguration in Malaybalay City, Bukidnon, my favorite refuge here in this part of the Philippines. You can read about my recent visit to this Benedictine Monastery here. Have you ever visited? If you have, I'm sure you'd agree with me when I say that it's the loveliest, most ideal place for a spiritual retreat. The Monastery of Transfiguration Bukidnon is where you can pray and commune with the Lord. It's also fast becoming a favorite wedding destination for so many couples around the world. However, apart from praying at this gorgeous cone-shaped chapel (picture below, designed by the late National Artist for Architecture Leandro Locsin and considered the centerpiece of the Monastery of Transfiguration), there are 3 other things you can do w...

I had the chance to revisit the Monastery of Transfiguration last weekend. Located in Malaybalay City, Bukidnon, the Monastery of Transfiguration, also known as the Benedictine Transfiguration Monastery, is my most favorite spiritual refuge. It's an ideal place to visit in Mindanao, Philippines if you want to go on a spiritual retreat. The centerpiece of the Monastery of Transfiguration is this popular cone-shaped chapel, designed by the late National Artist for Architecture Leandro Locsin. There's a dress code that you need to follow before you enter the chapel, please. If you find yourself alone in the church, consider yourself very lucky. It's when I'm alone inside this beautiful chapel that I can truly meditate and speak with the Lord. The well-manicured garden ...

Advocacy, America, Announcements, Bukidnon, Business, Consumer, Food, Misamis Oriental
This is truly something not only Mindanaoans but all Filipinos around the world should be proud of! The Philippines has finally completed its first ever shipment of highland cavendish bananas to the USA, making it the first Asian country to do so. And yes, these bananas, which will be marketed under the Sweetio brand, are from Bukidnon, Mindanao! :) Here's more - the Bukidnon bananas were shipped last August 20, 2013 from the Mindanao International Container Terminal in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental, Mindanao! The Philippine Embassy said that the maiden shipment, composed of 7.047 metric tons Bukidnon cavendish bananas, arrived at the Port of Long Beach near Los Angeles last September 9, 2013. This will be the first of an estimated 3,000 metric tons that the US hopes to import from the ...

This year, a fellow Mindanaoan will have the chance to visit America. This time, to attend an international summer camp in the U.S. called "Camp Up With People." I have so much respect for people and organizations that champion alternative sources of energy for clean and reliable electrical power production! Currently, we depend largely on hydropower plants. Some electric cooperatives also use several solar panels to augment their sources of energy (Cagayan de Oro’s CEPALCO has a solar panel area) and we all know about the Bangui Wind Farm in Ilocos Norte. But what about production of electricity without doing much harm to the environment? What about affordable electricity brought about by alternative-energy technologies? Gasification is a solution! Gasification is a process of converting organic or carbon-containing matter into synthetic gas or syngas which could be used to generate electricity. I’m particularly interested with this because ...

Artists usually request for food after concerts and frankly, my friends and I became pretty hungry, too haha! Who wouldn't be when Rivermaya gave quite an electrifying performance and we all danced and sang our hearts out that night? In fact, all of us were still on a natural high after the show :) We all trooped to a local restaurant, thinking that all we'd do is eat, accompany the boys, take photos and say our goodbyes. What actually happened was far more than just that. There was laughter - LOTS of it. There was an impromptu jam. There ...
