I consider myself a budget conscious traveler who doesn’t mind spending extra if it means getting something better. Take airplane food, for instance. Unless I’m truly famished or I want to try something for the first time, I stay away from food sold and served aboard an aircraft. Not only are these airline meals (more often than not) expensive, they’re hardly filling and tasty. The choices are very limited as well (so limited that I think a cup of instant noodles has become the “default” order by weary, hungry passengers).
However, let me say this: I always make an exception when I take flights via AirAsia. Even before I got invited to Cebu a few days ago for the exclusive AirAsia Hot Meals media launch, I have already been an avid fan of their in-flight meals. Real, flavorful food sold...
The main reason why I was in Cebu City several days ago was to speak at the Social Media Influencers Summit 2013, touted as the largest gathering of social media enthusiasts in the Visayas. It was truly an honor to be one of the speakers especially since the lineup boasted of a lot of prominent online and social media personalities as well as thought leaders like Maria Ressa (CEO of Rappler.com) and Leah Besa-Jimenez (SMART).
The Social Media Influencers Summit 2013 was held at J Centre Convention Hall, J Centre Mall, Mandaue City. About 300 social media users attended the summit, which was organized by iNewMedia Online in cooperation with the Cebu Bloggers Society.
Topics that day included community social media influencers at work (the stories behind the Iloilo Bloggers Society...
Like I previously mentioned in this blog, I had the chance of a lifetime to accompany US Ambassador to the Philippines Harry Thomas, Jr. for two days. It truly was an honor to be that up close and personal with the American ambassador, who I found to be very smart, direct and friendly.
As a part of his party when he visited Cagayan de Oro City for the very first time last week, I got the chance to accompany him in various events. We attended the distribution of HACCP and ISO certificates to 10 Mindanao companies, the roundtable discussion with CIPMYL graduates in Xavier University and the launch of the Cities Development Initiative in CDO.
Another event that I got to witness was the turnover of donations to Bulua National High School. The United States Agency for International Develo...
Want to know where to buy original Sperry Top-sider shoes in Mindanao, Philippines? Look no further! The World’s First Boat Shoe can now be bought in one of Mindanao's best lifestyle stores (and one of my personal favorites, I might add!) - Spruce.
The Sperry Top-Sider story is an example of the American knack for ingenuity and innovation. It also represents a love of sun,
surf and soul of the ocean...something that the brand coins a "Passion for the Sea".
In 1935, Paul Sperry, an avid sailor and outdoorsman, discovered a long- sought solution to a problem that had long troubled the sailing community: the fact that traditional shoes performed “like roller skates” on a wet deck. As Paul Sperry described it, his new shoes "stuck like a barnacle".
Sperry Top-siders are known to ...
Borgy Manotoc came and went but this tall and gorgeous human specimen left a super sweet and cute video message for me and my Mindanaoan.com readers! Believe me, it's really *kilig to the bones* :D
As always, I will share photos and kuwentos about Borgy Manotoc's bar tour for BenMore Scotch Whisky last Friday (seriously, who knew I'd be BAR HOPPING WITH BORGY MANOTOC?!) but for now, allow me to share this sweet video message from Borgy Manotoc for me and for all of you!
Just in case you don't know, Borgy Manotoc or Fernando Martin Marcos Manotoc is a model, endorser, blogger (although he told me he's not a "natural blogger"), photography enthusiast and entrepreneur. He has starred in various ad campaigns for Bench, Swatch, Blue Soda, Fila and of course BenMore Scotch Whisky. Borgy Ma...
Color Me Badd. All 4 One. I literally waited decades before it happened. And when it finally did, I forgot all the questions that I wanted to ask All 4 One and Color Me Badd for the longest time. I just simply enjoyed every moment I spent with them, did not hesitate to let them know that I was a certified fan, became their self-appointed paparazzi for the day, screamed at the top of my lungs, danced onstage (gulp!) and told them again and again just how loved they all were, still are and always will be! And - get this - I spent time again with them a few days later, got autographs and a special video message from All 4 One and Color Me Badd for all my beloved readers! Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus!
BUT!!! I’m getting way ahead of myself. Ch-ch-check out my big All 4 One and Colo...
Tourists arriving in Davao City from August 11 to 21, 2011 will be welcomed not only with warm Dabawenyo hospitality but also with one swift, delicious PUNCH! Yes, folks, we welcome tourists with a PUNCH!
Presenting the Davao Punch - a non-alcoholic mix of guava, pomelo and calamansi! Yum, yum, yum!
Yes, yes, it's obviously a play on the recent controversy involving our Davao City Mayor Inday Sara Duterte. For those who still do not know, Mayor Sara garnered a lot of attention after she PUNCHED a sheriff. But hey, doesn't this show the world we Dabawenyos have a sense of humor, too?
Anyways, a chef from the Center for Culinary Studies Davao (CACS Davao) reportedly concocted this delicious drink that obviously has a kick! (thanks to the calamansi!) The Davao Punch was concocted in ...
My third trip to Hong Kong happened just a few days ago, thanks to Airphil Express.
I love coming back to Hong Kong! Apart from the fact that we Filipinos don't need a visa to enter Hong Kong, this top Asian food and shopping destination always offers new and exciting things to do and discover for tourists. Hong Kong has a super efficient transport system, offers fascinating food, has a number of picture-perfect tourist spots and irresistible shopping sales!
Yep, Hong Kong is love :)
Now my most recent trip to Hong Kong was a pretty extra special overseas trip because:
1) it was the inaugural flight of the much-awaited Airphil Express Cebu to Hong Kong route (woohoo!)
2) it was a trip that was also made extra special by the Hong Kong Tourism Board
3) it was a trip where ...
A few days ago, this blogger in Mindanao received an invitation from Airphil Express.
The invitation came a few weeks after my brother, cousins and I flew to Singapore and Malaysia (yes, yes, I flew there again :) If you guys remember, I treated my mom to a special mother-daughter trip abroad last February 2011) aboard --- quite coincidentally --- Airphil Express :)
It was an invitation that was very hard to turn down --- it was a chance for me to be on board the special maiden flight of Airphil Express' Cebu to Hong Kong route!
Yes, folks, Airphil Express now has Cebu to Hong Kong flights! Now, Hong Kong is more accessible not only for people in the Visayas but for fellow Mindanaoans as well.
I'm pretty excited with this Hong Kong trip. This will be my third time in beauti...
