ABS-CBN Star Magic talent Julia Barretto truly wowed the crowd during the Style Origin 2013 fashion and style show held last May 25, 2013 at the Ayala Centrio Mall. Not that it was unexpected. She was, after all, a Barretto beauty. The charming Julia Barretto, who wore clothes from Bench, received very loud cheers from ardent fans and even from members of the audience who immediately got smitten with the fresh-faced Barretto beauty. The Style Origin 2013 fashion show aimed to re-affirm that style begins at Ayala Malls. And based on what I saw that day (I had a great view, thanks to the front row seats given to me and my blogger-friends by Centrio Mall - thank you very much!), they succeeded in achieving that goal. The fashion show, which was hosted by model and TV personality Phoemela B...

Okay, after sharing with you the photos I took of former 98 Degrees founder Jeff Timmons during the hugely successful a1, Jeff Timmons and Blue concert held last February 2012 in Manila, Philippines, it's now time for me to share the much-awaited photos I took of the boys of a1. Are those excited screams I hear?! :D For the uninitiated, a1 is a very popular British-Norwegian pop group. Originally composed of 4 members, the newly reunited a1 is now made up of Christian Ingebrigtsen, Mark Read and Ben Adams. Ever since they decided to reunite in August 2009, they've released hit songs like "Don't Wanna Lose You Again" and "Waiting for Daylight," which has so far managed to top a lot of charts not only in the Philippines but around Asia as well. I must say - there are a TON of avid a...

Mindanaoan In America: Around Washington DC

America, Features, Mindanaoan Update, Photos, United States of America
If I was asked to name at least 5 cities in the U.S. that I may want to live in, Washington D.C. would be one of them. I found Washington DC charming and interesting - despite the fact that politics plays a huge role there. I guess for those who abhor politics and all the scandals, flipfloppin', highs and lows that come with it, they won't feel comfortable in Washington DC. For people like me who get a natural high with fast-changing political strategies, however, Washington is the place to be. The day after I arrived in Washington D.C. USA for the start of my 3-week International Visitor Leadership Program, my fellow participants and I were toured around the city. I remember that day oh-so-well --- it was freezing cold but because we were supposed to have nice pictures taken for our...
Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and Museum in Singapore

Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and Museum in Singapore

Features, Photos, Singapore, Tourism, Travel
Apart from the Sri Mariamman Temple, another favorite tourist attraction in Chinatown District, Singapore is the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and Museum. Founded in 2002 by Venerable Shi Fa Zhao, the temple is dedicated to the Maitreya Buddha, which means ‘The Compassionate One" or "The Future Buddha." The temple is really majestic and the reason for this is that the lead designer, along with the local and overseas consultants who were part of the design team, incorporated the best of the Tang Dynasty (largely considered as a very important era in Chinese history) as well as the Buddhist Mandala. It is said that the details of the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and Museum in Singapore were researched really well in order to ensure authenticity. Admission to the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and ...

Photos taken at the Senate: the day of Sen. Miriam Santiago’s jueteng expose

Controversial, Events, Features, Government, Mindanaoan Update, News, Personalities, Photos
Apart from attending the 17th National Public Relations Congress, another thing I did during my recent trip to Manila was visit the Senate of the Philippines. It was supposed to be a quick visit but it turned into an almost 3-hour stay. The reason: Senator Miriam Santiago's jueteng expose. The feisty Ilonggo senator, in her privilege speech, accused several persons including Chavit Singson, Bong Pineda (a known friend of former President Gloria Arroyo), Atong Ang (a known ally of former President Erap Estrada), Tony Santos and Danny Soriano as alleged jueteng lords and even went on to say that the Philippine National Police and the Department of Interior and Local Government are in cahoots. Leave it to Sen. Miriam Santiago to shock and awe everyone. Well, this blogger from Mindanao t...

Learn how to create fresh, fun, funky photographs! Join the Razzle Dazzle photography workshop

According to the good ol' Webster Dictionary, the term "razzle dazzle" means: raz•zle-daz•zle (r z l-d z l) n. Informal 1. Dazzling excitement. 2. Extravagant or showy display, as of technique Inspired by the meaning of this term, Mindanaoan suggested this to my youngest brother, who happens to be a professional photographer. Hence, the birth of the "Razzle Dazzle Photography Workshop"! Summer is fast approaching! Instead of lazing around all day and being perfectly useless till June, why not enhance your artistic skills? Mindanaoan plays wedding photographer in Camiguin Island Mindanao

Beauty, Blogging, Camiguin, Features, Mindanaoan Update, Musings, Personal, Photos, Weddings
Hi guys! Thanks for visiting my humble blog about Mindanao and Mindanaoans :) I know I haven't been posting much the past few weeks...and I have good reason! Mindanaoan has been traveling here and there and more often than not, I end up being so tired to even lift a finger let alone write about my escapades. Thankfully, this blogger from Mindanao is home (at least for the next few days) and I'm back to sharing with you all the sights and sounds of Mindanao. One of the things that I got to do last week was travel to Camiguin Island, Mindanao. Along with my professional photographer-brother Bon and his assistant Gary, we covered a simple yet very romantic wedding in Camiguin, also known as the "Island Born of Fire." It was the wedding of Erwin and Karen. Erwin's from Bukidnon and Karen...

The Kapamilya Karavan 2009 in Cagayan de Oro City, Mindanao was a major success! The fun event, which was made possible by ABS CBN and SM City CDO, was held last August 28, 2009 (the very day CDO celebrated the Kagay-An Festival 2009!) at the Gran Via Lot, Pueblo de Oro. Virtually thousands and thousands of people came to watch the free show, which was the organizers' way of thanking the public for their continuous support. Mindanaoan was there because I was tapped to book two local bands (thank you, ABS CBN Manila!) Mindanaoan was also one of the official event photographers :) [the other one that I got was my brother hehe...but of course, right? :) ] Check out some of the photos that I took during the Kapamilya Karavan event in Cagayan de Oro below. Apart from the M.O.R. deejays an...

Cagayan de Oro City Mindanao aerial shots

Blogging, Cagayan de Oro City, Features, Flights, Mindanaoan Update, Northern Mindanao, Personal, Photos, Tourism, Travel
During my PAL Express flight from the Cebu International Airport, Mactan to Cagayan de Oro Domestic Airport, I took some aerial shots. I got a window seat at that time (I was also supposed to have a window seat during my PAL Express CDO to Cebu flight but my seatmate, an elderly woman who confessed that it's been so long since she last traveled by plane, looked pale and scared so I no longer insisted) so it was easy for me to take aerial shots of Cagayan de Oro City as our plane descended and prepared for landing. Mindanaoan wishes to share these Cagayan de Oro City aerial shots:

Here are the photos Mindanaoan (me!) took during the recent Cagayan de Oro City, Mindanao leg of the Register and Vote (RV) Campaign - specifically during the two students fora held at the Mindanao University of Science and Technology and Cagayan de Oro College - both Cagayan de Oro City schools. Mindanaoan was privileged enough to have accompanied the Team Kiko group last July 30, 2009. This RV campaign, which is spearheaded by Senator Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan, aims to draw out 5 to 9 million first time voters, encourage them to register at the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) and then come May 2010, exercise their right to suffrage. Sen. Kiko Pangilinan, AKBAYAN Partylist Rep. Risa Hontiveros, former Bukidnon Rep. Neric Acosta, BAYAN Partylist Rep. Teddy Casino and author Atty. ...

So I just produced the photos I took during my very first wedding photography coverage gig. I was one of the photographers (and the only female photographer, I should say) during the Prestenbach Wedding in Cagayan de Oro City, Mindanao last December 28, 2008. (Yep, I guess I'm now a wedding photographer here in Mindanao! :) ) It was truly a great day - to be able to capture people and moments and to be a part of a nice couple's memorable day. The Prestenbachs, a Germany-based couple, have been together for 15 great years and they're thinking of moving here in the Philippines for good. The Prestenbachs have two lovely children. They also have this magnificent beachfront property in Baloy, Cagayan de Oro. Here are some of my wedding photography photos: * All photos are of low ...
