I think these days, more than ever, we Filipinos need to promote our country. Despite the devastation caused by Tropical Storm Ondoy (international code name: Ketsana), we have all seen the spirit of unity and camaraderie in times of crisis. It may take a long time before we can finally recover but we will get there. We just need prayers, political will and unity. Singer Erik Santos was the special guest during the BPInoy Life Series event in Cagayan de Oro City, Mindanao last October 2, 2009. The BPInoy Life Series event, which was sponsored by Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI), aimed to showcase the various services and products of BPI, Globe, Ayala Land and other partner agencies. Attendees of the event were mostly beneficiaries or recipients of foreign remittances (from Overseas Filipino Workers) or entrepreneurs who engaged in businesses that also dealt with foreign remittances. Here's a video Mindanaoan took of Erik Santos as he sang "This Is The Moment." Watch out for the funny part where a guy shouts his "admiration" for Erik :D

BREAKING NEWS! Filipina actress Angel Locsin was nominated for Best Actress in the International Emmy Awards! Locsin is nominated for her title role in the popular ABS CBN Channel 2 series "Lobo" ("The Wolf" in the International Emmys) "Lobo" was Locsin's first TV series under ABS CBN Channel 2, following her controversial departure from GMA 7. Nescafe 3in1 Soundskool 2009 Mindanao regional finals winners declared

The winners of the Nescafe 3in1 Soundskool 2009 Mindanao regional finals were declared last Saturday, October 3, 2009 via an afternoon-long musical event held at The Atrium of the Limketkai Mall in Cagayan de Oro City, Northern Mindanao. Little School House of Xavier University, EEVEE of Philippine Women's College Davao City and Disco, Disco, Disco of St. Michael's College were declared the winners of the Mindanao eliminations. Each of the winning college bands received P25,000.00 and the chance to compete in the national finals to be held in Manila. AVON Kiss Goodbye to Breast Cancer Walk successfully held in Mindanao

My mom and I joined the Cagayan de Oro City, Mindanao leg of the AVON Kiss Goodbye to Breast Cancer Walk for A Cause last Sunday, October 4, 2009 at the kiosk area, Divisoria. The fundraiser, which was participated in by hundreds of ladies (and gents!) all garbed in pink, aimed to push advocacy for women’s health and fitness, breast cancer awareness as well as women’s protection against breast cancer. The walk started at around 6 am. The crowd then reconvened at the kiosk area at around 9 am and a short program was held. Pinoy Big Brother 2009 – PBB Double Up – has two Mindanaoans

So the Pinoy Big Brother 2009 PBB Double Up finally conducted its "magical reveal" of this year's housemates last night. Mindanaoan was able to watch parts of the show, which was hosted by Toni Gonzaga, Bianca Gonzales and Mariel Rodriguez. Thankfully, there are two Mindanaoan housemates this year. One is Melisa Cantiveros from General Santos City and the other is Marielle Sorino, a fellow Dabawenyo. Both are 21 years old. Melisa is dubbed as "Inday Kengkay" and is an aspiring teacher (during her brief interview, she spoke in English...with very good intonation, I must say!) while Marielle is a single mother and admitted to having been "rebellious" before - i.e. she drank and frequently partied and as a consequence, encountered conflicts with her parents especially her mom. I, Mindanaoan, was finally able to "introduce" my mom to the renowned Roadhouse Cafe baby back ribs. I say renowned because a lot of foodies and food experts have already given their thumbs up on the baby back ribs served at Roadhouse Cafe. Roadhouse Cafe serves Asian and Western cuisine. Its first and original branch can be found along Sayre Highway (national highway), Valencia City, Bukidnon, Mindanao. It now has a second branch at SM City Cagayan de Oro. Cagayan de Oro is roughly 2 and a half hours away from Valencia City. Reasonably priced, Roadhouse Cafe's baby back ribs tastes a bit sweet and tangy. Wow, go Mindanao! This piece of news about my beloved hometown is definitely heartwarming :) Davao City will send P10 Million from the city's own calamity fund for the victims of Tropical Storm Ondoy (international code name: Ketsana). Thank you to Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and to all the members of the city council for this effort! I salute you all and of course, I salute all fellow Dabawenyos for the hard work you've all exerted so far. The money will be coursed through the Philippine National Red Cross. Mindanaoan still can't concentrate well. As much as I want to work and attend to various other matters, I still can't help but log on to Twitter via Tweetdeck (which I highly recommend that you Twitter-holics use, by the way) and check how the search and rescue as well as the relief goods distribution efforts for Typhoon Ondoy victims are doing. I keep on retweeting helpful information as much as I can and it warms my heart to see so many private citizens doing their share in helping the victims. Hello, everyone! I know it's been a very difficult two days for all of us here in the Philippines - more especially for those in Luzon. Typhoon Ondoy (international code name: Ketsana) has caused so much catastrophe in our country. It left thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, homeless, hungry and in pain. So far, a lot of deaths has already been reported and with another typhoon set to visit the country in the next 3 days (yes, unfortunately!), we really need to unite and help each other. Meet my funny looking hotel room visitor!

Sir George Pension House in Cagayan de Oro City, Northern Mindanao is fast becoming one of my favorite budget accommodations in CDO. I think I've checked in 3 or 4 times after my very first stay at that cheap hotel in Cagayan de Oro City. I like the accessibility of the place (it's located at corner Pabayo and Gaerlan streets, just a few blocks away from the heart of Divisoria), the room rates are relatively cheap (single room rate starts at P600.00) and they offer FREE Wi-Fi!
