Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad to visit the Philippines this June 2012

Former Malaysian Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad will visit the Philippines this June 2012. Admired by many around the world, it was under the leadership of H.E. Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad leadership that Malaysia developed into one of the most prosperous economies in Southeast Asia.

Dr. Mahathir Mohamad will be in Manila, Philippines come June 10 to 11, 2012. He will be accompanied by his spouse H.E. Tun Dr. Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali.

According to incumbent Malaysian Ambassador to the Philippines Dato Seri Dr. Ibrahim Saad, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad will have a fairly packed schedule while in the Philippines. Apart from giving a keynote lecture at the University of Santo Tomas (which will be themed loosely on modernization, good governance as well as national development), he will also attend a high tea with the Malaysian community and a dinner to be hosted by an NGO.

I actually got invites to the events where Dr. Mahathir Mohamad will be (thank you very much to Dato Seri Dr. Ibrahim Saad and Datin Seri Dato Zainab Kader – both dear friends!) and I hope I can attend the High Tea at Rumah Malaysia. It would really be a thrill to meet one of the most iconic Asian public servants and changemakers in history!

Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad was the Prime Minister of Malaysia from 1981 to 2003. During his leadership, he opened the country to foreign investment, reformed taxation, reduced trade barriers and the privatization of numerous state-owed enterprise. He’s also best known for his “Vision 2020,” which he launched in 1991. The said program served as blueprint for Malaysia’s journey to becoming a developed economy and a mature democracy by the year 2020.

By the way, Mesdames Tingting Cojuangco and Doris Magsaysay-Ho are also playing key roles. Both ladies are helping the Malaysian Embassy with regard to the upcoming visit of Dr. Mahathir Mohamad to the Philippines.

Here’s hoping I can meet him when he arrives in a few days! *crosses fingers*
