Today, August 15, 2011, is the official start of the 2011 Kadayawan Festival. Kadayawan is the biggest annual celebration in Davao City, Mindanao. Here is the schedule of activities of this year’s Kadayawan Festival.

Malacanang Palace has declared August 19, 2011 as an official special non-working holiday in Davao City! Here’s the full text of the proclamation straight from Malacanang Palace:

PROCLAMATION NO. 215
DECLARING FRIDAY, 19 AUGUST 2011, AS A SPECIAL (NON-WORKING) DAY IN THE CITY OF DAVAO
WHEREAS, the City of Davao marks the week-long celebration of the “Kadayawan Festival”;
WHEREAS, to enable the people of the City of Davao participate in the event, the Sangguniang Panlungsod requested that Friday, 19 August 2011 be declared a special non-working holiday;
WHEREAS, it is but fitting and proper that the people of the City of Davao be given full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion with appropriate ceremonies.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, PAQUITO N. OCHOA JR., Executive Secretary, by authority of His Excellency, BENIGNO S. AQUINO III, do hereby declare Friday, 19 August 2011, as a special (non-working) day in the City of Davao.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
