Breaking News: Oscar de La Hoya apologizes to Manny Pacquiao

Former world boxing champion Oscar De La Hoya has apologized to Manny Pacquiao, current world boxing champion, world's best pound for pound boxer and congressman representing the lone district of Sarangani, Mindanao. This Oscar De La Hoya apology, which I personally followed via Twitter, comes after Top Rank CEO Bob Arum reportedly said that if only De La Hoya and Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions merely extended their apologies to Manny Pacquiao, the Mindanaoan boxer may just consider recalling the defamation case he filed against them. Gawad Kalinga or GK is an organization that has built at least 50,000 homes in the Philippines, has tens of thousands of volunteers all over the country and has successfully housed over 500,000 people for low-cost housing. Too bad for people who want to watch Mindanaoan superstar boxer Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao share the silver screen with Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger (a Filipino-American-German). Solar Films’ Wilson Tieng has confirmed that Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger has dropped out of Manny Pacquiao’s Metro Manila Film Fest entry, “Wapakman.” Sayang! That could've been a great movie to watch...just imagine our fellow Mindanaoan Manny Pacquiao squaring it off with Nicole! Mindanaoan Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao will again star in a major Nike commercial --- but this time, he will be joined by two other sports giants - NBA star Kobe Bryant and golf sensation Tiger Woods. I may be wrong...but I think that while this isn't Pacquiao's first time to do a Nike commercial, this is the first time that he will film a commercial with Woods and Bryant. Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao and Sylvester “Sly” Stallone together in a movie?

Well, this information's straight from Erik Pineda, Manny Pacquiao's business manager, so I guess this one's true! Pacquiao is reportedly set to do a movie with Rambo himself, Sylvester "Sly" Stallone. In fact, the duo reportedly met at Stallone's office in Los Angeles, California last January 6, 2009. During the meeting, Sly even gave the Pacman's two sons, Jimwell and Michael, a pair of boxing gloves which bore the signature of former world light-heavyweight champion Tony Tarver. Still, this piece of development shouldn't be treated as a 100-percent-fully-done-and-waxed type of deal. Everything's still in the planning stage. Pacman’s win should not mask true state of RP sports

I absolutely agree with Senator Francis "Chiz" Escudero's statement that Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao's win over Oscar "Golden Boy" De La Hoya recently should not mask the real, true state of Philippine sports. While we're all happy and proud of Pacquiao's win in the recently concluded "Dream Match," (congratulations, Manny!) we should not forget that there's still so much to be done in order to really make the Filipino truly excel in different sporting fronts (and not just in boxing). It's true that Pacquiao, a certified Mindanaoan by the way (he was born in Kibawe, Bukidnon and grew up in General Santos City, Mindanao), is a genuine sports hero not only among Filipinos but among boxing aficionados all over the world. Pacman vs. Golden Boy: Pay Per View Or Not?

Who's looking forward to the upcoming Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao - Oscar "The Golden Boy" De La Hoya bout as much as my family and I am? Can't wait to watch the exchange of jabs, hooks and upper cuts on December 6, 2008. The event, which will be held at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, is dubbed the boxing match of the year! Do you think Oscar will win or will the Kibawe, Bukidnon-born Pacman deliver a knockout? Anyways, as we all know, HBO Pay Per View (PPV) will carry the bout on December 6, 2008.
