South Border, Side A, Freestyle in 1 concert – Yolanda fundraiser

It's been a month since deadly typhoon Yolanda (international name: Haiyan) struck the Philippines. The death toll so far - 5,260. Unfortunately, that number is still increasing. Haiyan, a category 5 super typhoon, left thousands of people homeless and hungry. While it's true that billions of dollars in aid have started to pour in, the fight is still not over. Far from it. Hence, every fundraising event, volunteer movement and donation drive really counts. One upcoming fundraising event for typhoon Yolanda survivors, dubbed "Pag-Asa Sa Pag Gising," is close to my heart. I love all of the performers, yes, but one of the bands is my most favorite ever - South Border. I wrote a post earlier about just how much I love them and why they will always have my love and support. Additionally, thi...

Hear my voice over at Bubbly

Mindanaoan Update
I'm a bit enamored with a phone app these days. It's called Bubbly and it lets you share your voice with the world. Although I know a few folks who have been using it for a while now (like the kulit boys of Rivermaya band), I only just listen to their voice blogs. I finally decided to download the app and use it last week. And my first try? Me singing "If I Believe," inspired by the Patti Austin - Lea Salonga duet on The Voice Philippines several nights back :) Did you listen? I'd be happy if you could leave comments below. Be kind though :D :P And I got a bit lucky, by the way! One of Bubbly's accounts, @BubblyPicks, chose me (@mindanaoan) for their #FollowFriday mention :) Pretty cool, right? :) I'm tickled pink ;) (Thanks Bubbly!) Here are my two other voice blog posts via ...

I met Titus John Monterde (or TJ Monterde) in Cagayan de Oro several years ago. He was friends with my brother Bon and we had a lot of mutual friends as well. He was already a celebrity in his own right then. A popular local TV host of ABS-CBN regional lifestyle show "Mag TV Northern Mindanao," TJ Monterde already had a following. Which wasn't entirely surprising since I knew TJ's friendly, smart and approachable. What I didn't know then was that the boy could sing as well. Fast forward years later, Teej now has his very own record album entitled "Ikaw At Ako." Released by Galaxy Records and distributed by Polyeast Records, TJ Monterde's album boasts of 6 well-loved OPM hits and 5 originally penned songs, including his own composition "Ikaw At Ako," to which the album was named after...

Singer Mark Bautista launches new business Foot Notes Socks

Business, Cagayan de Oro City, Consumer, Fashion, Features, Mindanaoan Artists, Mindanaoan Update, Shopping, Style
These are what Kagay-anon singer and fellow Mindanaoan Mark Bautista says are "inspirational socks." Foot Notes Socks are socks that can serve as "inspiration at your feet." Foot Notes Socks is the latest business venture of Mark Bautista, a son of Cagayan de Oro City and a nationally acclaimed Filipino singer, actor and model. Mark shares this on how he came up with "Foot Notes Socks by Mark Bautista": "Growing up I loved the stage, but it didn't come easy. Stage fright was something that always held me back and I still remember all the emotions, just like it was yesterday. Strangely enough my mom had the perfect solution: She put coins in my socks before one of my competitions, and told me this would help calm me down. That day I went on stage with the coins in my socks and...

KZ Tandingan. A star is born in Digos, Davao del Sur! I'm sure a lot of you have watched that video of Kristine Zenny "KZ" Tandingan of Digos where she auditioned for "X Factor Philippines." Just in case you haven't, I placed it below. KZ Tandingan is from Digos, Davao del Sur so that makes her a fellow Mindanaoan (person from Mindanao, Philippines). I told you guys time and again, there are a LOT of amazing singers in the Philippines especially in my beloved Mindanao. During her audition for X Factor Philippines, KZ Tandingan sang her very own version of "Over The Rainbow." Her version's so cool that a lot of people now say that she's the Joss Stone of the Philippines. Do you agree? The X Factor Philippines judges Charice, Pilita Corrales, Martin Nievera and Gary Valenciano all g...

Buildex Pagales sings Madayaw Davao, Madayaw Coca-Cola song

Pilipinas Got Talent alumni and Digos City, Davao del Sur native Buildex Pagales was chosen by Coca-Cola to sing the fun "Madayaw Davao, Madayaw Coca Cola" song. The song is obviously written especially for my beloved hometown Davao and for fellow Dabawenyos :) Buildex Pagales is just 15 years old (I can almost hear the shrieks from all the female tweens! :D) and he's supposedly dubbed as "the Bruno Mars of the Philippines." He basically knocked the Pilipinas Got Talent judges' knocks off when he sang Bruno Mars' "Billionaire" and "Just The Way You Are." Reports also say that one of the judges, Kris Aquino, even shared on Twitter that she found the fellow Mindanaoan's story "inspiring." This "Madayaw Davao, Madayaw Coca Cola" song is part of the said beverage company's ongoing "open ...
