Akamai, a leading content delivery network services provider for media, software delivery and cloud security solution, revealed on their 3rd quarter survey that the Philippines has registered significant improvements in terms of connectivity. This prompted National Telecommunications Commission Deputy Commissioner Edgardo Cabarios to say that the Philippines' fixed-line broadband speed is set to improve further once the Duterte administration's National Broadband Plan is implemented. Based on Akamai’s Q3 report, the country’s average connection speed (IPv4) for mobile internet has now ranked first in the Asia Pacific region, registering an average speed of 13.9 Mbps up from 8.5 Mbps in the second quarter. On the table presented in the study, the Philippines’ average mobile speed 1...

The P 4.835B target was set by the Development Budget Coordination Committee (DBCC) composed of the Department of Budget Management (DBM), the Department of Finance (DOF) and the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA). The achievement came from the NTC’s concerted efforts to strictly enforce stakeholders’ compliance in remitting administr...

How to pay your Philippine travel taxes online

America, Announcements, Flights, Hongkong, Internet, Japan, Kyoto, Leisure, Macau, Mindanaoan Update, News, Osaka, Seoul, Society, Taiwan, Technology, Tokyo, Tourism, Travel, United States of America
Here in the Philippines, individuals who leave the country need to pay travel taxes. The Philippine travel tax is actually a levy imposed by the government. Filipino citizens, foreign passport holders and non-immigrant foreign passport holders who have stayed in the country for more than one year are usually required to pay full travel taxes when they go abroad. Currently, the Philippine travel tax rates are Php 1,620 for economy passage and Php 2,700 for first class passage. I'm sure frequent travelers like myself will agree that the queues at the travel tax payment booths can be time consuming. To address this, the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) has launched a system for travelers to pay their Philippine travel tax online. Here's how you do it. ...

CD-R King now has affordable LED light tubes

Features, Technology
Haven't we all tried using fluorescent lights in our homes at least once? What seemed to be a harmless household product later on proved to be harmful in the long run. Years after fluorescent was discovered, it was found out that fluorescent gives off a small amount of ultraviolet light and that 8 hours of exposure under a fluorescent light is already equivalent to an hour of sun exposure. Scary! Some of us may have also later on switched to CFL (which was said to be less harmful) but it still contained fluorescent. Ergo, mercury is still present. Thankfully, the invention of LED has saved us from the long term use of fluorescent. Definitely great news for all consumers!   We can now purchase the LED Light Tube. It gives the same high light output of fluorescen...

Improved Philippines ICT performance garner attention from foreign indexes

Announcements, Government, Headline, Internet, Technology
Absolutely great news, Philippines! Even various foreign indexes have now noted an improvement in the state of information and communications technology (ICT) in the country. Such improvement in the ICT sector is being attributed to the innovations made by telecom service providers (telcos) as well as the Philippine government. In the latest survey conducted by the United Nations Public Administration Country Studies (UNPACS) among UN member-countries, the Philippines climbed 24 notches to rank 71st out of 193 countries in "e-government development." The survey uses E-Government Development Index (EGDI) as composite indicator of the willingness and capacity of national governments to utilize ICT in the delivery of public services. * Photo courtesy of InvestPhilippines.org This...

I've been a Globe Telecom subscriber for decades! I remember my first phone was a humongous Nokia 10, subscribed to a Globe line. It was such a big deal to have a cellular phone at the time. Never mind if the phone only allowed me to type and view up to two lines of text. If you had a Globe line (I believe the subscription plan I had then was unlimited call and text to fellow Globe users), you were IN! I can actually still recite my very first Globe number. It started with 0917. Then, when I moved to Globe prepaid a few years later, I had a different number but it still started with 0917. A few years after that, I acquired a new number (STILL 0917!) and retained that up to this day. I also have another line and it's still 0917. Needless to say, I'm a loyal Globe Telecom subscriber. ...

A co-working place is ideal for people who are used to working at home but eventually need a place where they can't be distracted. Now here's good news - there's now a co-working space in Cagayan de Oro, Philippines! Aptly called "The Space," it's CDO's finest hub for online professionals or people who just nee...

Globe Studios aims to produce clips, series and even movies from top directors such as Erik Matti, Paul Soriano, Quark Henares, Dan Villegas, Sigrid Bernardo, Joyce Bernal, and Lav Diaz. I must say, however, that I’m most excited with Globe Live. Globe Live aims to produce, promote and deliver engaging, creative events of international size and quality. Globe will use its wide distribution channels to promote these live events and bring them to the customer wherever he or she...

A few days ago, a Twitter friend of mine tagged me in a tweet. I thought it was just an interesting article. Turns out it was an article published in one of the world's most popular, high traffic technology and design blog, Gizmodo --- and apparently I was in it! Well, technically, my tweet was :) My tweet got cited in an article about a recent gaffe committed by Facebook. You see, they greeted us Filipinos Happy Independence Day but the flag that came along with it was inverted. Highly unintentional, I'm sure, which was exactly why my tweet didn't sound angry or anything. I even professed my love for them hehe! Check out the full Gizmodo article where my tweet was included (1 of the only 2 tweets cited!) Thank you, Angela! :) Do follow me on Twitter - I love exchanging thou...
