Mindanaoan is off to yet another fun adventure! Mindanaoan will be off to the Queen City of the South - Cebu City - today to take part in this year's colorful Sinulog 2010 or what's dubbed as the Sinulog at 30. Here's hoping that I will have a safe trip today via Philippine Airlines (Mindanaoan's favorite airline as of late). Nay, make that a trip that will push through! I'm a bit worried because it's been rainy the past few days and I heard about the Cebu Pacific Air passengers who got stranded at the CDO airport. Pilipinas Got Talent regional auditions on January 29, 30

Expect a lot of people to flock to Capitol University in Cagayan de Oro City, Mindanao on January 29 and 30, 2010. The regional auditions for the reality talent search, "Pilipinas Got Talent," will be held at CU and the 2-day audition will see the presence of "Pilipinas Got Talent" hosts Billy Crawford and Luis Manzano as well as PGT judges Kris Aquino and former ABS-CBN President Frederico Garcia. Mindanaoan learned that the tickets to these two shows will be given out for free but I highly suggest that you get yours this early. Do call ABS CBN CDO to ask how you can avail of a ticket. Christmas is in the air at SM Mall of Asia

So yes, Mindanaoan was in Metro Manila for two days. Hence, the obvious lull here in my humble blog. My two-day Manila trip was a surprise Christmas gift from two very special friends whom you'll learn more about in the next few days. Needless to say, the trip was the most expensive one I received this year...and the sweetest impromptu gift, I must admit. For now, I'd like to share some of the shots I took last December 23, 2009 at SM Mall of Asia, considered the 3rd largest mall in the world. Truly, the festive Christmas spirit can be felt at MOA! I did a little bit of Christmas shopping there, watched "Avatar" at IMAX 3D theater, ate at a relatively new restaurant and bought Krispy Kreme for pasalubong. Davao City Mindanao to finally have its own sports dome

Thankfully, my fellow Dabawenyos and I can now finally say that our beloved Davao City REALLY is a world-class city to live in. I just learned that the world's most livable city will soon have its very own sports dome --- fully airconditioned, ready to accommodate roughly 8,000 people and worth roughly P100 million. And here's something that may surprise a lot of people --- the City Government of Davao need not shell out a single cent since the funds for this project have been sourced elsewhere --- i.e. the national government funds. Interestingly, the funding for this Davao City sports dome will be taken from the congressional development fund of the Speaker of the House Prospero Nograles, a certified Dabawenyo. The press statement of the upcoming Mindanao Power Summit 2009 alarmed me. It said that "by 2014, projections have it that Mindanao will have a deficit capacity of 484 megawatts which is equivalent to putting out power in the five major cities of Mindanao - Zamboanga, Cagayan de Oro, Davao, Butuan, and Cotabato." That means that five years from now, Mindanao will suffer a devastating power crisis and that the situation may reach the most critical state if we do not act fast and act now. The press statement also claimed that the entire Mindanao grid may experience regular rotating brownouts as early as next year (!), especially with the coming in of additional new investments that are anticipated to further deplete the grid’s reserve capacity. Mindanaoan band EEVEE bagged the top prize in the recently concluded Nescafe 3in1 Soundskool 2009 finals held in Manila. EEVEE, which represented the Philippine Women's College of Davao City, bested 13 other groups from all over the Philippines. EEVEE received P250,000.00 cash, an exclusive recording contract with Sony Music Philippines and their school, PWC, will receive P100,000.00 worth of music equipment. A few days before the grand finals, EEVEE and the 12 other bands underwent workshops in Boracay. AdZU Concert Band marks 77 years with STINT, to hold concert in Davao and CDO

The Ateneo de Zamboanga University Concert Band will mark its 77th anniversary with a ground-breaking tour of Mindanao. “This concert tour is in celebration of the Sesquicentennial (150 years) of the return of the Jesuits to the Philippines,” said band director Apolonio “Poli” G. Enriquez. “This is also in celebration of 100 years of the Ateneo de Zamboanga University from 1912-2012.” The band concert dubbed "Stint" will play at Xavier University on November 24th, (Tuesday) with a 3.00 PM Matinee and 7.00 PM Gala performance. Mindanaoan Manny Pacquiao defeats Miguel Cotto, grabs welterweight boxing crown!

Fellow Mindanaoan and the world's best pound for pound boxing champ Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao has defeated Puerto Rican boxer Miguel Cotto just a few minutes ago. Pacquiao won against Cotto on the 12th round via TKO. The boxing referee had to stop the fight with only 55 seconds remaining in the 12th round. Filipino boxing champ Pacquiao, who now has 7 boxing titles, has successfully grabbed the World Boxing Organization welterweight boxing title. The Pacquiao versus Cotto fight took place Saturday night at MGM Grand Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. During the fight, Cotto was knocked down twice and his ears, nose and most of his face got bloodied. Congratulations Manny Pacquiao! The world, especially the Philippines, is truly proud of you!

One of the things I used to dream about when I was younger was to attend school abroad. I took my IELTS exam (I passed) and did research. I remember I already had a shortlist of the schools that I wanted to attend. However, times were tough, money was scarce. And the LIFE kicked in. My dream remains to be a dream.
