The Kaamulan Festival has truly evolved. From being a simple celebration whereby representatives from Bukidnon's 7 hill tribes would all gather in Malaybalay City, the capital of Bukidnon, the annual festival has now turned into quite a spectacle. Despite the many changes, however, I'm glad that there are still events that allowed our indigenous brothers and sisters to showcase their rich, unique and truly colorful culture and tradition.
One of these events was the Kaamulan Festival Ethnic Tribal Olympics or Kaamulan Ethnic Sports Competition. In Binukid language, ethnic sports is called "Alu-Alu."
Representatives from the Bukidnon, Higaonon, Manobo, Matigsalug, Talaandig, Tigwahanon, and Umayamnon tribes challenged each other in at least 18 ethnic sports at the Capitol Grounds i...
As I am writing this, the yearly Kaamulan Festival is currently ongoing in the Province of Bukidnon, Philippines. The Kaamulan Festival 2018 celebration will last until March 24, 2018, on which day the main highlight, the Ethnic Street Dancing Competition, will be held in Malaybalay City, the capital of Bukidnon. If you're heading there, you may want to check one of my other blogs, the longest-standing one about the province, Bukidnon Online. You can also find the Kaamulan 2018 schedule of activities there.
Anyway, full disclosure --- I am still here in New York, USA (legally, if I may add) and obviously, I'm thousands of miles away from Bukidnon. Fortunately, I have an awesome brother, Ben, and an awesome cousin, Daniel, and they're both covering the events for my blogs! Yes, I'm very ...

This 2015, the Bukidnon government decided to move it to October.

Not many know this but the Province of Bukidnon is home to the Philippines' finest cowboys. In the municipality of Impasugong alone, a lot of Bukidnon cowboys (and cowgirls!) live the cowboy lifestyle ala Marlboro Country. The rolling hills, vast landscape and several ranches make it possible for these cowboys to live this kind of lifestyle in Bukidnon. And every year, the public gets to see these Bukidnon cowboys showcase their skills via the yearly Kaamulan Festival Rodeo.
The Kaamulan Festival 2014 rodeo is no different. This year, the Bukidnon cowboys got to show the public how cattle wrestling is done. Locally called "Karambola," cattle wrestling is where a bovine is released from the pen and then the cowboys try to subdue or lord over these bulls.

UPDATE: This is the final and official Kaamulan Festival 2013 Bukidnon schedule of activities! :)
Bukidnon's yearly grand ethnic cultural festival and gathering of the 7 hill tribes is finally here! The Kaamulan Festival 2013 is the gathering of Bukidnon's 7 hill tribes namely Bukidnon, Umayamnon, Manobo, Talaandig, Matigsalug, Higaonon and Tigwahanon tribes. The Kaamulan Festival 2013 is inarguably Bukidnon's grandest festival.
The term Kaamulan, derived from the word "amul" which means "to gather," can mean many things - a datuship ritual, a thanksgiving festival, a peace pact or a wedding ceremony. This year, the Bukidnon Kaamulan Festival 2013 is all of these :)
The Kaamulan 2013 theme is: "Sustaining Culture and Unity Towards Progress and Development"

Early this week, my cousins, some friends and I went to the Dahilayan Adventure Park in Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon. Just in case you still do not know, Dahilayan Adventure Park is home to Asia's longest dual cable zipline --- all 840 meters of it! The Bukidnon zipline adventure park is also 4,500 meters above sea level so the climate there's pretty cold :)
Anyways, I'll tell you more about my recent trip to this Bukidnon tourist spot in another post. If you want to see what went down during my first visit to Dahilayan Bukidnon zipline, though, you might want to read THIS.
What I want to share now are some of the photos this Mindanao photographer took during a stopover at the Municipality of Impasugong, Bukidnon. Impasugong is about an hour and a half away from Manolo Fortich. It's a fi...

I must admit, I'm kilig to the bones. Although I know by heart every single word Piolo Pascual said in this video greeting that he did (I should because I wrote the words LOL), I still cannot help but feel giddy. Piolo is Piolo! And he has always been very nice to me...so I have nothing but respect and admiration for the man. The last time I spoke to him was when I watched the ASAP show live at ABS-CBN Manila late last year. And I tell you, he really is one charmer! :D
Check out the video greeting he did for his "fellow Bukidnons" (he, along with "Love Me Again - Land Down Under" co-star Angel Locsin, is an adopted child of the Province of Bukidnon) in time for the Kaamulan 2009. Piolo's looking dapper in that video, don't you think?
Thank you very much to Miss Mariole and Miss Lulu ...
The photos are out! I'd like to share with you some of the photos I took during the grand finals of the Kaamulan Jam 2009 Lock and Load Battle of the Bands which was held last February 28, 2009 at the Capitol Stage, Capitol Grounds, Malaybalay City, Bukidnon.
The finals night was a successful one - hundreds of people came despite the rain and very chilly weather. A total of five bands performed that night (elimination nights were held from Monday to Friday that week and the winning band had the chance to compete in the finals) and the band called "The Jam" nabbed the top prize of P25,000 cash.
By the way, apart from being one of the official photographers of the event, I (well, technically, the agency I own and manage) was also a sponsor and part of the coordinating committee :)
The Province of Bukidnon found in Mindanao, Philippines takes the spotlight in the current issue of the inflight magazine of Cebu Pacific Air, "Smile." The article about Bukidnon entitled "Tribal Pursuits" centers on the province's largest annual festival called the Kaamulan Festival. The Kaamulan festival is the annual gathering of Bukidnon's 7 hill tribes.
For more information and for the complete schedule of activities for this year's Kaamulan 2009 Festival, check this page.
Going back to the article found in Cebu Pacific's magazine, I would just like to personally thank the writer, Irwin. I met him last year during the Kaamulan Festival 2008 celebration in Bukidnon. He was very pleasant and friendly. Salamat, Irwin! Thanks for mentioning Bukidnon Online, too ;) The article is re...

And, yes, just in case you're wondering - this is the same Kaamulan Festival where Ara and Migo met - the character played by Angel Locsin and Piolo Pascual, respectively, in the recent Star Cinema offering, "Love Me Again (Land Down Under)" :)

The much-awaited Kaamulan Festival 2009 in Bukidnon, Mindanao, Philippines is set to begin on February 18 and I myself cannot wait to join in the festivities! The Kaamulan Festival is the largest festival in Bukidnon and is largely renowned as the only remaining authentic ethnic festival in the Philipines. Residents of Bukidnon Province, Mindanao are highly anticipating the showing of the Angel Locsin-Piolo Pascual starrer "Love Me Again (Land Down Under)" come January 15, 2009. However, there's one catch - they need to either travel to Cagayan de Oro City (which is roughly 2 hours away from Bukidnon's capital city Malaybalay) or Davao City (which is about 5 hours away by land) OR wait for the DVD version of the movie (hopefully some won't resort to buying pirated copies of the film!). You see, there aren't any movie houses or cinemas in the entire province of Bukidnon.
After the Belyca cinema in Malaybalay City closed down years ago, no other movie house has operated in the capital city of the said province that's considered the food basket of Mindanao. (I actually remember those days wh...
