DSS Fireworks Dumaguete wins 1st Cagayan Pyrolympics during Kagay-an Festival 2009

The award-winning DSS Fireworks of Dumaguete City bagged the grand prize in the recently concluded 1st Cagayan de Oro Fireworks Competition (Pyrolympics) held at the Gran Via Lot (beside SM City CDO). DSS Fireworks, a four-time grand champion of Buglasan Festival in San Carlos, also got the top prize during the Sinulog Festival 2009 fireworks contest. Mindanaoan was among the thousands of people who trooped to the Gran Via Lot last August 29, 2009 to witness the fireworks display. I went with my brother Bon, who fortunately brought his motorcycle. This is one "vandalism but with consent" event you might not want to miss! :) The artists will doodle (a form of sketching) for two days and the finished product will be showcased at Spruce. MSU-IIT Iligan City Mindanao to attempt Guinness World Record

A school in Mindanao is gunning to be a part of the renowned Guinness Book of World Records! Mindanao State University - Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) in Iligan City, Mindanao will attempt the "Most Number of People Singing the National Anthem Simultaneously" on September 1, 2009. The event, which will start at 9AM, will be held at the MSU-IIT Gymnasium and organizers are urging interested participants to wear white shirts and maong pants. I can already smell the protests courtesy of animal welfare advocates. Horse fights (also known as "Paaway Kuda"), which are part of the culture of indigenous peoples, will be revived in this year's Kadayawan Festival 2009 celebration. Muziklaban 2009 na! The much-awaited Red Horse Muziklaban 2009 is bigger and better this time around. Muziklaban is an annual rock band competition wherein the winning band gets the chance to win, among others, P1 Million. The Red Horse Muziklaban Rock Challenge 2009 is now open for registration and various audition opportunities are slowly kicking off. In Bukidnon, Mindanao, for instance, the auditions will be held on July 24, 2009 at Sir Edward's Grill and Restaurant, Malaybalay City.
