Following the declaration of Martial Law in Mindanao by the President of the Philippines, Rodrigo Duterte, two of the country’s airlines have also released guidelines and statements especially for confirmed ticket holders.
Flag carrier Philippine Airlines said that passengers with confirmed bookings from May 24 to June 30, 2017 may rebook, reroute, or refund flight tickets to and from Mindanao until end-July without any penalties.
The areas included are:
– Butuan
– Cagayan de Oro
– Cotabato
– Dipolog
– Davao
– General Santos
– Ozamiz
– Surigao
– Zamboanga
Passengers with confirmed tickets to and fro these areas are qualified to amend their tickets.
Passengers may call the PAL hotline (02) 855-8888 or go to the nearest ticketing office or partner travel agent.

Meanwhile, Cebu Pacific has advised its passengers with confirmed tickets to allot sufficient travel time to get to the airports. This, due to the heightened security measures.
According to their advisory, guests may also “opt to rebook their tickets from free within 30 days (sic)” but please note that the advisory only limits it to “guests flying to and from any Cebu Pacific or Cebgo destination in Mindanao from May 25 to 31, 2017.” Guests also have the option to place the cost of the ticket in a travel fund.

Moreover, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte has placed the city in lockdown and has advised travelers to NOT visit the city first because of the heightened security measures. She says that travelers might find the thorough security checks a “hassle.” She advised travelers that if the purpose of visiting the city isn’t important to please hold travel plans as of the moment.

Question to PAL: When you say we can re-book without penalty, does it mean we don’t need to incur additional costs when re-booking? Because yesterday, I rebooked a Davao-Manila ticket (original date– June 9; changed to – June 8) and I was charged P2,060. When I questioned it given that my ticket was rebookable, the PAL staff explained that P1,500 is for re-booking charges and the rest are for fare adjustments/ fare differential.. would appreciate a prompt reply so I can request a refund, if justified.
I suppose this is because you rebooked not because you want to *avoid going* to Mindanao. Otherwise, you’ll book it after July 30.
