The King of Festivals is here once again! Kadayawan Festival 2015 or the 30th Kadayawan sa Dabaw will be held in Davao City from August 17 to 23, 2015. Kadayawan Festival is Davao City's grandest and most colorful celebration that highlights Davao tribes' culture, tradition and everyday lives. The 76th Araw ng Dabaw festivities are ongoing! The Kapayapaan or Peace-themed Araw ng Dabaw 2013 will be on March 16, 2013 but a lot of events already kicked off as early as February. The Duaw Dabaw Foundation, one of the City Government of Davao's partners in carrying out events like the Araw ng Dabaw and Kadayawan, has reportedly set aside Php 5.2 Million for several events including the Mutya ng Dabaw 2013 pageant. It's Kadayawan Festival 2011 season in Davao City, Mindanao these days. Unfortunately, if you think you can just take your award-winning photos especially during the Indak Indak sa Kadalanan Parade (street dancing) or the Pamulak (floral float parade) just like that, then you're in for a big surprise. This year, the Kadayawan Festival 2011 organizers (Duaw Davao Festival Foundation) have drawn new guidelines for...hold your breath...an access pass. Something pretty similar to what the Sinulog organizers in Cebu have done/are doing. I'm not sure if Davao is ready for this, though. I can already smell the protests courtesy of animal welfare advocates. Horse fights (also known as "Paaway Kuda"), which are part of the culture of indigenous peoples, will be revived in this year's Kadayawan Festival 2009 celebration.
