Not many people know that Camiguin Island a.k.a. The Island Born Of Fire is home to two beautiful waterfalls. One of them is actually a favorite destination of many tourists and locals alike and is, almost often than not, included in Camiguin Island tour packages.
Katibawasan Falls is located at the foot of Mt. Timpoong, Barangay Upper Pandan, Municipality of Mambajao, Camiguin Island. From Mambajao proper, Katibawasan Falls is located about 5 kilometers southeast. From the top of the falls, a clear stream of water drops 250 feet or about 70 meters to a plunge pool. And you know what makes Katibawasan Falls Camiguin Island a must-visit? The water that’s almost as cold as ice! Yep, plunging into the water without testing the temperature can actually be a test that could separate the men from the boys!
During my most recent trip to Camiguin Island, I took a plunge at Katibawasan Falls. The water was seriously icy cold! Interestingly, though, it doesn’t take a long time before one’s body adjusts to the extreme temperature. In fact, after a few minutes, I already found the water warm and it was only when I got out of the water that I felt its iciness again.
Which reminds me – it may be a good idea if you wear proper swimwear when you visit Katibawasan Falls. Apart from a swimsuit or board shorts, you might also want to consider wearing sports clothing from all of your favourite brands. Start with a pair of aqua shoes and rash guards. These will come in very handy especially since the bottom of the falls’ plunge pool has rocks and moss. Also, large boulders and rocks can be found around the pool so better wear something that could protect you!
By the way, you can bring food and drinks. There are some picnic tables around the falls. There are comfort rooms as well. Don’t expect too much, however. The amenities are very basic. Also, please take note of the barrier near the foot of Katibawasan Falls. Don’t swim beyond that barrier – it’s for your safety 🙂

As I previously mentioned in this Camiguin Island Travel Guide, the local government of Camiguin has set forth minimum fares for special trips. If you intend to hire a multicab (can hold 6 to 10 people), the set price is Php 350.00 (round trip fare, from any resort within and near Mambajao)
