Yes, Virginia, you read that right. The best churros or fried dough pastry in this side of Northern Mindanao, Philippines can actually be found in a recently opened one stop shop that sells high performance mountain bicycles, gear and accessories – Bike Republic Cafe.
Yes, a CDO bike shop would most probably be the last place you’d think of when hunting for the best churros in town. However, Bike Republic Cafe isn’t like any other shop. They’re the exclusive retailer of Trek bicycles in Cagayan de Oro and they also carry Scott products, which apparently were the bikes used by gold medalists during Rio Olympics 2016.
Plus they also offer good food, coffee, beer, mouthwatering sandwiches, burgers and, of course, churros con tsokolate (which I’ve been raving about for days!). Add cozy ambience and friendly staff to that and we have ourselves a winner.

For only Php 69, you get 6 pieces of these choux-based snacks. Served with generous sides of cinnamon sugar and delicious chocolate sauce, Bike Republic Cafe’s churros are perfectly deep-fried. As a result, each piece is crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Pair it with your favorite hot or cold beverage and the day’s complete.
I also loved their classic cheese burger – a steal for only Php 159. Why? Because you get a quarter pound 100% all-beef patty with black sesame seed bun, signature cheese sauce and dressing, white onion, tomato, lettuce and a side of seasoned sweet potato chips. Value for money.
I spotted other must-try-on-my-next-visit items: Hawaiian spicy smoke burger, Monte Cristo sandwich, kebab sandwich, open-faced tomato sandwich with pesto and Swiss burger. I’ll share my verdict on my Mindanaoan.com blog!
