IT'S OFFICIAL. The Oro Association of Rafters (OAR) will now implement new and increased rates for white water rafting in Cagayan de Oro. These new CDO rafting rates will actually help the industry. Please read on so we may all understand :) Back in January, I first wrote about the rate increase proposal. Now, I learned that the new CDO rafting rates have already been duly approved and that all of the rafting outfitters have started implementing them last October 1, 2016. The new rates are as follows: * Celebrities Aga Muhlach and Rowell Santiago try CDO rafting with Great White Water Tours Basic rafting course / Lower section (2-3 hours) - Php 1,200 per person. So as we all know, the Department of Tourism launched a new tourism logo and slogan --- "It's more fun in the Philippines"! But for Typhoon Sendong (international name: Washi) victims in Cagayan de Oro City, Iligan City and Dumaguete, things weren't exactly "fun" ever since the December 16, 2011 floods. To date, more than 1,400 people have died in CDO alone and hundreds more are still missing. In Iligan and Dumaguete, it's the same scenario. Lots of lost lives, damaged properties and broken dreams. Slowly but surely, however, things are picking up, thanks to selfless volunteers and generous souls. For weeks, so many relief operations were launched. Then rehabilitation efforts. Now, it's time to REBUILD. And for Kagay-anons, tourism can really play a big role in rebuilding CDO. Thi...

So I'm back from a very brief visit to my hometown, Davao City, Mindanao. While it felt refreshing to be back home, my stay was a painfully short one so it was still really BITIN. My mother, brothers and I were in Wadab town to celebrate one my younger brothers' birthday. Anyways, the highlight of my Davao City trip was the much-awaited Xcelerator adventure. I have so much to share about my Outland Adventure Xcelerator adventure (I'll also share some photos!) - I'll write more about that tomorrow. In the meantime, I'd just like to share with you all a little bit of info that I got while we were at Outland Adventure. One of the staff members talked to me and told me that a zip line ala Xcelerator might be put up in Cagayan de Oro City (which is roughly 6 hours away from Davao City by bus...

Review: Casa Crystalla (Budget hotel in Cagayan de Oro City)

Cagayan de Oro City, Hotels, Reviews, Travel
Back in college, the Ateneo Glee Club had a joint concert with the Xavier University (Ateneo de Cagayan University) Glee Club. (Don't laugh but I was one of the Sopranos of the Ateneo Glee Club :D) Anyways, all of us had to stay with either foster families or in lodging houses in Cagayan de Oro City. Casa Crystalla, a budget hotel in the City of Golden Friendship, was one of the concert's sponsors and they offered several rooms for my co-club members. (I stayed with the lovely Yap family) Fast forward a few years later, Casa Crystalla CDO is now one of the CDO inns I stay in whenever I'm in town. There are a couple of reasons why I like staying there - for one, the rates are very affordable (I usually get the deluxe room with ref, table and chairs - like a mini sala set of sorts - and b...
