A year after Typhoon Sendong (international name: Washi) hit Northern Mindanao (particularly the cities of Iligan and Cagayan de Oro), more than 1,000 people died and more than 500 persons remain missing. In an effort to provide the bereaved families with a place where they can honor their loved ones who untimely passed away, a group composed of female community movers conceptualized the Sendong Memorial Wall project. JCI Bai Lawanen, Mindanao's first all-lady chapter of the Junior Chamber International - Philippines, started the Sendong Memorial Wall community project, which aims to serve as a sanctuary for the grieving families.
