Tips for the best balsa adventure (Laguindingan or Alubijid floating cottage)

Tips for the best balsa adventure (Laguindingan or Alubijid floating cottage)

Cagayan de Oro City, Features, Mindanaoan Update, Misamis Oriental, Tourism, Travel, Videos
It's summer! And you know what that means - we all need a respite from the scorching heat. One of the surefire ways to cool off is to hit the beach or, in this case, have a balsa adventure! A balsa is basically a floating cottage or raft largely made of bamboo and wood. Balsas have become ubiquitous especially off the shores of Laguindingan and Alubijid in Misamis Oriental (and in Cagayan de Oro City, last I heard!). I'm aware of the issues surrounding the operations of Balsa in Alubijid and Balsa in Laguindingan so I leave it all up to you guys to decide if you want to patronize but I do want to emphasize that I totally support responsible and sustainable local tourism efforts. So anyway...my relatives and I went on a balsa adventure recently and I have a few tips for you before y...

Delicious Thai food at SIAM Krua

Business, Cagayan de Oro City, Food, Mindanaoan Update, Restaurant, Reviews
One of the "normal" things I miss is dining out. I'm sure you do, too. Actually, it's not just the idea or the act of dining out. It's eating the food you love or the food you've been craving for. And these days, it's authentic Thai food for me! In Cagayan de Oro, I get my Thai cuisine fix at Siam by Krua Thai. It's run by the same Siam by Krua Thai that I go to in Cebu City. They had contact tracing forms, alcohol and a temperature check by the door. The server was also pleasant and knew which bestsellers to suggest. Of course, I just had to have Tom Yum Seafood Soup. Don't ...

Did you know that just by shopping at Spruce, you can help raise awareness and help fight breast cancer? Now, shopping for a cause truly has greater meaning! Spruce, one of my favorite lifestyle stores, has forged a partnership with Thrive CDO, a breast cancer awareness advocacy group in Cagayan de Oro City, Mindanao. In order to support Thrive CDO and its campaigns, Spruce has created a very special line of trendy, comfortable and very affordable shoes! The line is called Spruce PINKed and for every purchase of a pair, a portion of the money goes to Thrive CDO. Actually, there's a personal reason behind this Spruce-Thrive CDO partnership. The Tamparong sisters, the amiable trio behind Spruce, found out that their mom Maridel was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010. The news pre...
