General Santos City, Mindanao is set to celebrate the much-awaited Tuna Festival 2010 on September 18 to 26, 2010. This, after the Tuna Festival Council of GenSan decided to change this year's schedule. Normally, the Tuna Fest is celebrated during the first week of September. This year, however, it's set to happen on September 18 - 26, 2010. The 42nd Charter Day celebration of General Santos City will also be held on September 5, 2010. So during Mindanaoan's Sinulog Festival 2010 escapade, I had the chance to catch one of the performances featured in the "Cebu, Cebu" event held at a large mall in Cebu City. "Cebu, Cebu" is an event that aims to focus the best of Cebu --- from food to designers to jewelry to crafts to artists. And two of the artists that came to perform during that weeklong celebration included singer-actress Pinky Marquez and crooner Chad Borja. Chad Borja may be from Cebu but he has been based in Davao City for several years now. He regularly performs at Kanto Bar over at Matina Town Square (MTS), Matina, Davao City, Mindanao. Tangub City of Misamis Occidental, Mindanao bags Sinulog 2010 streetdancing top plum anew

Tangub City did it again! The Tribu Sinanduloy, entry of Tangub City, Misamis Occidental, Mindanao to the Sinulog 2010 streetdancing competition this year, bagged the top plum anew. Tribu Sinanduloy is the defending champion for the Sinulog-based category. And to add another feather to their cap, Tribu Sinanduloy also bagged the street dancing award! Tangub City has bagged nine championship trophies since they first joined the Cebu festival in 1994. Their Sinulog 2010 victory is their ninth. Mindanaoan will be off to the Queen City of the South - Cebu City - today to take part in this year's colorful Sinulog 2010 or what's dubbed as the Sinulog at 30. Here's hoping that I will have a safe trip today via Philippine Airlines (Mindanaoan's favorite airline as of late). Nay, make that a trip that will push through! I'm a bit worried because it's been rainy the past few days and I heard about the Cebu Pacific Air passengers who got stranded at the CDO airport. Iligan City Mindanao fiesta to feature Higantes

Here's another reason why you should all go and visit Iligan City, Mindanao during their fiesta month this year (September 2009 up to first week of October 2009). "Higantes" will be among the attractions in this year's celebration of the Iligan City fiesta. These "higantes" (giants), made of paper mache, cloth and other indigenous materials, will be part of the "Kasadya Street Dancing and Merrymaking" event. Similar to Angono, Rizal's "Higantes," (see inset picture) the entries will vie for a cash prize of P20,000.00. Each "higante" entry must not exceed 12 feet in height. The Kapamilya Karavan 2009 in Cagayan de Oro City, Mindanao was a major success! The fun event, which was made possible by ABS CBN and SM City CDO, was held last August 28, 2009 (the very day CDO celebrated the Kagay-An Festival 2009!) at the Gran Via Lot, Pueblo de Oro. Virtually thousands and thousands of people came to watch the free show, which was the organizers' way of thanking the public for their continuous support. DSS Fireworks Dumaguete wins 1st Cagayan Pyrolympics during Kagay-an Festival 2009

The award-winning DSS Fireworks of Dumaguete City bagged the grand prize in the recently concluded 1st Cagayan de Oro Fireworks Competition (Pyrolympics) held at the Gran Via Lot (beside SM City CDO). DSS Fireworks, a four-time grand champion of Buglasan Festival in San Carlos, also got the top prize during the Sinulog Festival 2009 fireworks contest. Mindanaoan was among the thousands of people who trooped to the Gran Via Lot last August 29, 2009 to witness the fireworks display. I went with my brother Bon, who fortunately brought his motorcycle. I can already smell the protests courtesy of animal welfare advocates. Horse fights (also known as "Paaway Kuda"), which are part of the culture of indigenous peoples, will be revived in this year's Kadayawan Festival 2009 celebration.
