Last month, during a concert in Manila, I met really cool, talented, down-to-earth and generous guys. Those guys were Robin Wilson, Scott Johnson, Jesse Valenzuela and Scott Hessel a.k.a. Gin Blossoms.
Yes, the very same guys who made “Hey Jealousy,” “Till I Hear It From You,” “As Long As It Matters” and “Follow You Down” smash hits worldwide. Never mind if their “As Long As It Matters” song is a Grammy-nominated creation and that it has earned the band more than 9 Million in sales in the US alone. They were very sweet, approachable and have hearts of gold. In fact, during their stay in the Philippines, they, along with the bands Smash Mouth and Sugar Ray, donated more than 400 official concert t-shirts to the victims of the 7.2 earthquake that hit Bohol and Cebu.

And now, in light of the devastating super typhoon Yolanda (international name: Haiyan), Gin Blossoms will once again prove just how much they care.
Gin Blossoms will perform in a benefit show dubbed “Gin Blossoms – Rockin’ For Philippines” on Thursday, November 21, 2013 at Stage 48, 605 West 48th Street, in New York City, USA. I’m including a map below.
Here’s the band’s official statement:
Three days ago, Typhoon Haiyan (also known as Yolanda) hit the eastern seaboard of the Philippines and tore across its central islands, bringing wind-speeds close to 200 miles per hour and a storm surge of 20 feet. We are only beginning to understand the scale of destruction, but Haiyan is estimated to have claimed thousands of lives, and the physical and economic damage will be both widespread and long-lasting. The Philippine Red Cross helps provide immediate shelter, food, blankets, hygiene kits and essential non-food supplies to displaced survivors; they estimate that nearly 20,000 families are currently sheltered in over 300 evacuation centers.
Gin Blossoms would like to encourage their friends and fans to make a monetary donation at the following link: ushare.redcross.org.ph/ “Any amount our fans and friends can afford will offer much relief to effected families fast” says Robin. “We performed in Manila less than a month ago. It’s so tragic that this has effected so many of those wonderful people” says Jesse.
The Philippine Red Cross have localized on-the-ground networks and knowledge of local communities and their needs. As a result, they are often best positioned to extend the supply chain of relief to the hardest hit local communities quickly and accurately.
