Exclusive: Atty. Adel Tamano is new Dean of Liceo University, Cagayan de Oro City

BREAKING NEWS! A first and exclusive right here on Mindanaoan.com! And he even broke the news to this Mindanao blogger himself 😉

One of the largest universities in Mindanao now has a high profile lawyer as one of its Deans. Liceo de Cagayan University or LDCU, the first private, non sectarian university in Cagayan de Oro City, Mindanao, just hired the very first Filipino Muslim scholar graduate of Harvard University.

Atty. Adel Tamano, former President of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM), former spokesperson of the United Opposition (and last year, of the Nacionalista Party) and yes, former senatorial candidate, is now the new Dean of the College of Law of Liceo University.

“I’ve accepted the post of Dean of Liceo in CDO. I’ll be there twice a month,” was Atty. Adel’s text message to Mindanaoan.

According to Liceo de Cagayan University’s website, the school’s mission statement is: “to educate the youth by instilling in them a commitment to academic excellence through a genuine interest in learning, self discipline, and personal growth in order to develop them into fully integrated persons and realize their own individual potentials so as to pursue professional careers and thus become productive members of society.”

The College of Law of Liceo de Cagayan University, meanwhile, is a department of Liceo de Cagayan University which was founded by the late Atty. and Mrs. Rodolfo N. Pelaez. The LDCU College of Law was formally opened on February 4, 1955, in answer to public demand.

Among the said college’s achievements was when it produced its first batch of lawyers in 1997 and placing fourth in passing average among the seventy law schools throughout the country.

According to Sir Adel, he will start his “tour of duty” this June 2011, the start of the school year.

Want to take a glimpse of how wise the new Liceo dean is? Okay, okay, he’s handsome, too! 😉 Check out this video of him and his brother Sir Aquil (who’s also a well respected lawyer and who’s now one of the Commissioners of the Games and Amusements Board…and yes, a good looking chap as well!) endorsing what else but this humble Mindanaoan.com blog! You won’t be sorry — so go and view the video now!

And just so you know, Atty. Adel Tamano sings really well, too! I even sang a duet with him 😀

Personally, I’m excited to know that someone like Sir Adel will be a part of a university in Mindanao again. He used to teach in Mindanao State University in Marawi City but that was years ago. His last stint as a member of the academe was when he was President of PLM so yes, it’s truly great news to know that he will be a part of the Mindanao academe community again 🙂
