I did a “wala lang” weekend trip to Davao City, Mindanao a few days ago. I just wanted to go to the beach and not think about my business, clients, contracts and everything else. I just needed to feel the warmth of the sun on my skin, I wanted to feel the sand in between my toes, I wanted to breathe fresh air, I wanted to swim…I just needed to be at the beach again. I felt that, after months of working so hard, I badly needed an escape…at least for the weekend.
I wanted a quick, no-nonsense trip and for this I thought of revisiting one of my family’s long-time favorite tourist destinations at the Island Garden City of Samal – Paradise Island Park and Beach Resort.
Paradise Island Samal is perhaps the largest beach resort in the IGACOS (Island Garden City of Samal) area. With a shoreline of almost 800 meters, very reasonable rates and the fact that it’s just a few minutes away from the city proper, this resort is a longtime favorite of Dabawenyos and tourists alike. I’ll tell you how you can get to Paradise Island after the jump.
As you can see from the photo I took above, the rates are pretty cheap. Day tour only costs P100.00 each. This already entitles you to entrance to the resort and to a table with benches. Now, should you want to stay along the beach overnight, you just need to pay P250.00. However, should you need a room, Paradise Island Beach Resort also offers various types of rooms. Rates start at around P2,000. They also have function rooms.
What’s also great about Paradise Island is that the prices of the food aren’t very expensive. Hence, it’s better if you just order from their restaurant rather than bring food and then pay corkage fees.
But siyempre the star of the resort is the beach – clear water, free from jellyfish and rubbish and you can even see the fish! Check out the photo I took after the jump.
And don’t worry, the fish at the bottom part of the photo is just a mini fountain 😀
See the blue tents? The restaurant, tables, lounge chairs and benches can be found there. So as you can see, the white sandy beach is just a few steps away.
If you’re not in the mood to swim, Paradise Island has a lot of amenities that can interest both the young and the young at heart. I bought Haagen Dazs at the resort’s Ice Cream Kiosk and cold drinks from the Tinda’an. They also have an aviary, spa/massage area, children’s playground and park.
So yup, Paradise Island Davao sure is family friendly.
I only stayed the whole day at Paradise Island but it was enough to recharge my energies.
It was good to be one with nature again.
How to get to Paradise Island (Samal Island, Davao City)
The shortest way to get here in Paradise Island is by airplane from Manila and Cebu to Davao.PicsThe preferred airlines have more than one flight everyday, please check their schedules below. From Davao City International Airport, you can hail a taxi or ask the officer in charge of the cueing taxies for help and give you a taxi that will take you to Paradise Island Dock at Sasa. Do not forget to get your taxi note from the officer for your reference in case of taxi driver abuse. As you enter our private road leading to our dock, you will be met by our Receptionists and help you board our colorful boats.
The first regular boat trip leaves the dock at 5:00 am and last trip is at 5:00 pm. Special trips may be arranged with the Management. ( – from the Paradise Island Resort site)

I always forgot how to get to Paradise Island and I am definitely bookmarking this blog, thanks. Paradise Island and the rest of the beach resorts along that shoreline are the best. I also was able to experience Marina azul. Nothing can beat the beaches of Mindanao.

@Melissa – Marina Azul is a nice place as well!
I beg to disagree when you say “nonsense trip”. For me you’ve got a wonderful trip there plus the valuable information you shared here about Paradise Island. Paradise Island is a place where I want to visit over and over again here in Davao.

@GirlOpinion – didn’t mean to say that the trip itself was nonsense. I wanted to say that it was a trip that I made on a whim 🙂
Darn! They have cottages there now?
The last time I was there the entrance was less than 10 pesos…NOOOO it wasn’t too long ago, so I’m not that old.
Does Maryknoll and COACO still exist?
I almost drowned swimming drunk in those reefs there.
I guess I’m old now co’z I don’t remember…uhmmm, oh yeah, it was in the late 80’s.
Gee that was almost 30 years ago! Darn, I am old!
Hey thanks for sharing your blog.

Haha! That’s okay. I get sentimental sometimes as well 🙂 There are a lot of new resorts in Samal now. There’s even a plan to revive a casino-hotel-resort project there 🙂
