The Monastery of Transfiguration, located in Malaybalay City, Bukidnon, also known as the Benedictine Transfiguration Monastery, is my most favorite place for spiritual refuge. It’s an ideal place if you want to go on a spiritual retreat.
The centerpiece of this Mindanao monastery is a popular cone-shaped chapel, designed by the late National Artist for Architecture Leandro Locsin.
There are no entrance fees. Just make sure that you’re appropriately dressed. They have a dress code. I’ve written extensively about the monastery and what you can see and do there (READ: Revisiting the Monastery and 3 Things You Can Do At the Monastery of Transfiguration) but there’s a new and nice development there.
They have a new coffee shop slash gift shop! It’s called the Abbey Giftshop and now only can you buy religious memorabilia and items like scapulars, rosaries and prayer booklets, you can also buy local products and of course, the world-famous Monk’s Blend Coffee. Plus there’s a small cafe so you can enjoy your coffee and delicious, locally made snacks.
Check out the video I took below (I had cinnamon ensaymada and coffee!) I also have a Tiktok video.
