I am a big fan of supporting local products. I believe that when you buy from local small and medium enterprises, you don’t just help create livelihood. You also help foster peace and development, a sense of responsibility and respect. You help build a community of hardworking citizens.
In Cagayan de Oro, we now have the chance to support these local SMEs by visiting GINAMĂ‚ (that’s an A with caret at the last or an A-circumflex). Ginama means something made with great care and attention. This is also the name of the pasalubong center in CDO, which is the result of joint cooperation among the City Government of Cagayan de Oro, the Department of Trade and Industry and CDO’s local community of micro, small and medium entrepreneurs (MSMEs). Ginama is the stage that this group of tireless champions has set to showcase the hard work, creativity, talent and artistry, of the makers and producers of the City of Cagayan de Oro and the rest of Northern Mindanao.
Cagayan de Oro City’s Ginama is also adopted as a One-Town-One-Product Philippines Hub by the Department of Trade and Industry.
Took these photos below when I visited during the most recent Higalaay Festival 2019 celebration:
As you can see, there are tons of local products – from bags to food products to home accessories to paper products to fashion accessories – not only from CDO entrepreneurs but from enterprises around Northern Mindanao.
During my visit, I bought coffee scrub, cheese sticks and cacao hand and foot cream 🙂
Please do visit and together let’s uplift our local economy.
GINAMA is located at Gaston Park near the Cagayan de Oro City Museum. Check out the map below. If you need a place to stay near tourist spots like Gaston Park, I recommend The Pacifico Boutique Hotel.
