The new Miss Universe 2015 is Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, the Filipino-German stunner who considers Cagayan de Oro, Mindanao, Philippines her second home.
The road towards being Miss Universe 2015 wasn’t easy for Pia Wurtzbach. She had to join the Binibining Pilipinas beauty pageants three times before she bagged the Bb. Pilipinas Universe title, which eventually allowed her to represent the Philippines to the Miss Universe pageant.
Although she was born in Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg, Germany, the 26 year old beauty queen stayed for many years in both Cagayan de Oro and Iligan. In CDO, she attended kindergarten at Kong Hua School and primary school at Corpus Christi.
Now, Pia has bagged the Miss Universe 2015 title. This makes her the third Filipina to bag the crown. Hmm. Which makes me realize that three is Pia’s lucky number 🙂 That was a really weird crowning moment, though, after pageant host Steve Harvey initially declared Miss Colombia as the winner. About after a minute of wearing the crown, Miss Colombia got dethroned (de-crowned? Is there such a word?) and had to give up the title. Truth be told, I feel really bad and sad for her.
I mean – how do you celebrate when you know that someone is hurting?
That may have been the weirdest, most awkward moment in the history of all beauty pageants but I guess all is well. Steve Harvey has apologized, Miss Colombia 2015 Ariadna Gutierrez has said that she harbors no ill feelings and the Miss Universe organization has owned up to this gaffe.
Congratulations, Pia! Time to pop champagne!
