Senator Francis "Chiz" Escudero sent this official statement on the Manila Times headline story "Chiz: Carpio may face impeach raps." You can read the story here: http://www.manilatimes.net/index.php/news/top-stories/24021-chiz-carpio-may-face-impeach-rap (this is not an active, working link, sorry)
Read below the official statement of Senator Chiz Escudero:
Let me correct the banner story of Manila Times today (June 1, 2012) which quoted me as warning of a fresh impeachment proceeding if President Benigno Aquino III appoints Associate Justice Antonio Carpio as the next Chief Justice.
The report is baseless and I categorically deny the same.
Let me clarify and put in proper context the statements I have made in response to questions thrown at me as the Senate representative to ...
The rising number of abductions in Cotabato City over the past months has prompted Senator Chiz Escudero to call for the relief of the local police and armed forces chiefs in the area, saying they failed in their duties to secure and protect the people from criminals like the kidnap-for-ransom gangs.
Escudero, chairman of the Senate committee on national defense and security, condemned the latest abduction in the city involving Chinese businessman Eulogio Lim Yu last Saturday.
This came a month after a nine-year-old girl was kidnapped but rescued in Pigcawayan, a town adjacent to the city. The girl’s father, trader Allan Tamayo, was killed when he tried to stop the abductors.
Before this, Chinese businesswoman Conchita Tan was also snatched in Cotabato City, and her driver and bod...
Popular band Spongecola will perform in Davao City, Mindanao today, October 9, 2009, during the Bagong Sigla benefit concert at Damosa Market Basket, Lanang, Davao City. Entrance is technically not free since you're requested to bring some canned goods, a pack of rice, dry and usable clothing, bottled water or medicines but this is for a good cause so it's still all good, yes?
Alternatively, you can also just donate a minimum of one peso at the concert gates to gain admission (although I highly suggest that you bring more than that please) Beneficiaries will be the typhoon Ondoy victims.
This Bagong Sigla concert will actually be held simultaneously in Manila, Iloilo, Davao and Dagupan. Originally planned to be a free musical concert in time for Senator Francis "Chiz" Escudero's 40...
Mindanaoan.com just received this text message from Senator Francis "Chiz" Escudero on Senator Noynoy Aquino's declaration to run for president in the May 2010 elections:
"He is a good friend and I wish him all the best in his endeavor. He is definitely a good addition to the roster of those who have declared their intention to run for President in order to give our people the widest and best possible choices for President."
Escudero, 39, is also rumored to be a presidential candidate.
Observers say that the young legislator is being eyed by the NPC Party to be its standard bearer in next year's presidential elections.
Chiz Escudero will turn 40 on October 10, 2009.
WHAT CAN YOU SAY ABOUT THIS, FELLOW MINDANAOANS?
Senator (and rumored presidentiable) Francis "Chiz" Escudero has said it and I agree --- the peace and development here in Mindanao is hostaged to politics. The kind of politics that run in "Imperial Manila."
One of the things that the next president should do is bring together all stakeholders in Mindanao to craft a development agenda --- one that's doable, cost efficient and worth all of our time and efforts --- that will not be hostaged to any change in administration.
“Only an all-stakeholders approach will lead to the long-sought peace and meaningful development in this region, not Imperial Manila’s “urong-sulong, atras abante” approach since we gained independence,” Escudero said.
The 39-year old lawmaker said the country’s development will greatly be accelerated if authorit...
Fans of rumored presidentiable Senator Francis "Chiz" Escudero and Davao City Mayor Rodrigo "Rody" Duterte will love the picture in this Mindanaoan blog entry. Opposition Sen. Chiz Escudero was one of the main guests of Mayor Rody during festivities marking the city’s Kadayawan Festival 2009 last August 22, 2009. Judging by the happy smiles on the faces of these two popular political personalities, do you think this is a sign of an alliance to come? WHAT DO YOU THINK?
In his visits to Mindanao, by the way, Escudero has repeatedly called for increased investments by government in agriculture and infrastructure to maximize the island’s economic potential.
MINDANAO - Opposition senator and reported 2010 presidentiable Francis "Chiz" Escudero and I share the same sentiments.
Chiz Escudero, in his recent press statement, has asked the public that while it's true that we all should be happy for International Red Cross volunteer Eugenio Vagni's safe release from captivity in Basilan, we should still not forget the three teachers who remain hostages of the Abu Sayyaf.
If you remember, these are my very thoughts last May 2009.
The three teachers namely Jocelyn Enriquez, Jocelyn Inion and Noemi Mandi were abducted by last March 13 off the island barangay of Bangkaw-Bangkaw, Naga town, Zamboanga Sibugay while they were on the way home.
“The end of Mr. Vagni’s ordeal should convince those working behind the scenes to exert more effort in...
At least someone's thinking about Mindanao and Mindanao refugees! Opposition Sen. Chiz Escudero yesterday said that the government should act immediately to divert shipments of imported rice to central Mindanao so that the 380,000 refugees in evacuation centers won’t go hungry after a UN agency halted its food relief operations in the region.
“We are faced with a humanitarian crisis that could become a disaster if this administration fails to act quickly to fill in the gap left by the UN World Food Program,” Escudero said.
“Part of the rice we have been shipping in from abroad can be diverted to the ports of General Santos and Cotabato City. This will not make a dent in the NFA’s 82-day buffer stock,” he said.
He also called on the government to ensure the safety of the staff of t...
Apparently he now is! The once spokesperson of former President Erap Estrada (the late Fernando Poe, Jr.) and now opposition senator Francis "Chiz" Escudero was recently "adopted" as a Datu. Chiz Escudero is now also known as "Datu Matansub" (meaning approachable and wise).
The adoption of Chiz as a datu was held last March 14, 2009 in Davao City, Mindanao during a meeting with tribal leaders. The meeting was held in line with the Mindanao Indigenous Peoples Conference for People and Development. Check out the photo provided to Mindanaoan by the Office of Senator Francis Escudero below. BY THE WAY --- please --- if you have plans of reposting this entry or reusing this photo, please have the courtesy to cite the source. Thank you.
Check out the contents of a package sent to me via courier recently. (Apologies for the poor quality of the photos as I only took them via my ever trusty Motorola Krzr phone.) Now...is this a sign of things to come? Is this something die hard supporters should be elated about? Or is this just a way for HIM to thank his friends, fans, foes (?) and supporters?
You know...the year 2010 is a presidential election year and this early, we have heard of the many personalities who have made it clear that they have intentions of gunning for the top executive position in Philippine government. From Senator Manny Villar to Senator Mar Roxas to Senator Loren Legarda.
Do you think HE will run?
Do you think he will face Legarda in the quest to get the NPC Party's nod?
And do you think he has...
Senator Francis "Chiz" Escudero has proposed that bus drivers who commit criminal negligence in road mishaps should face twenty (20) years of imprisonment. This, in the wake of a lot of vehicular accidents as of late.
The senator from Sorsogon, who currently chairs both the Senate Committee on Ways and Means and the Senate Committee on Justice and Human Rights, introduced Senate Bill Number 2701 (SBN 2701) which aims to provide more teeth to existing preventive policies to achieve safety benefits. SBN 2701 penalizes criminal negligence committed by common carriers with reclusion temporal, or twelve (12) years to twenty (20) years in prison, in case of death.
Common carriers' criminal liability is found in Article 365 of the Revised Penal Code, Criminal Negligence, which provides as p...
