Hungry In BGC? Try The Hungry Hound

It was just my luck. Just recently, on the very day that I found myself in Manila, I then heard that creative and skillful cook, TV show host, food blogger and celebrity restaurateur Erwan Heussaff was also in Cagayan de Oro. I’ve always wanted to meet him and ask all about his “The Fat Kid Inside” journey and yet, there I was, basically on the other side of the country.

Fortunately, the hosts of my Manila trip, representatives of Globe Telecom, took me to one of Erwan’s food ventures at Bonifacio Global City – The Hungry Hound! It was right beside the Globe Telecom headquarters and just a few steps away from my hotel so it was pretty convenient.

The Hungry Hound, inspired by the gastro pub culture founded by The Eagle in London in 1991, is described as “freestyle.” Aside from Erwan, this joint is also co-owned by Erik Cua, Rob Pengson (who is also a chef), Carlo Trillo, Marc Soong and Kim Yao. As soon as you enter, you will feel right at home – with its wooden interiors, very high ceilings and modern, comfortable furniture.

Since it was my very first time to try their fare, my hosts recommended the customer favorite – Duck Fat Fries. Cooked in duck fat and tossed with roasted garlic confit, Parmigiano Reggiano, thyme, rosemary and parsley, it was the perfect appetizer. The serving was generous and my hosts and I shared it but I must admit, I reached for more.

I then asked my hosts what I should eat – I was up for anything. I was curious with the all-day breakfast choices so they recommended the baconsilog. Thick cut bacon strips, perfectly cooked egg on top of delicious organic brown rice. The bacon strips was juicy and the egg was a bit “malasado,” which I preferred. It was truly gastronomic delight.

The Hungry Hound also has a good array of drinks so you can also bring your friends here for an evening get-together.
