Bonok Bonok Festival 2011 in Surigao

After the Kadayawan Festival in Davao City, Kagay-an Festival 2011 in Cagayan de Oro City and the 13th Tuna Festival in General Santos City, it’s now time for another Mindanao festival — Bonok-bonok 2011 Maradjaw Karadjaw Festival in Surigao!

Bonok Bonok 2011, which officially starts on September 9, 2011, features ethnic mardi gras street dancing and other festivities. Bonok Bonok Maradjaw Karadjaw 2011 is also held in line with the annual fiesta celebration of San Nicolas de Tolentino on September 10.

This year’s Bonok Bonok 2011 street dancing competition has two categories: the Free Interpretation (FI), which is open to barangays, schools and municipalities within and outside the Province of Surigao del Norte and the Bonok-bonok (BB) based which is open to barangays of Surigao City only.

As stated in the contest mechanics and guidelines, the criteria for the Free Interpretation are storyline theme and concept—20%; choreography—30%; performance—35%; production design that includes costumes, music, props and sets—15%. For the Bonok-Bonok based category: storyline theme and concept—20%; choreography—35%; performance—35%; production design that includes costumes, music, props and sets—10%.

Prizes for the 2011 Bonok Bonok Festival street dancing competition are:

For the free interpretation category: P200,000 plus trophy for the 1st prize; P150,000 plus trophy for the 2nd prize; P100,000 plus trophy for the 3rd prize; and P20,000 each for the consolation prize. Special awards for Best in Street Dancing is P50,000 plus trophy; Best Choreographer is P20,000 plus trophy; and Best in Musicality is P20,000 plus trophy.

For the Bonok-Bonok based category: P100,000 plus trophy for the 1st prize; P75,000 plus trophy for the 2nd prize; P50,000 plus trophy for the 3rd prize; and P20,000 each for the consolation prize. Special awards for Best in Street Dancing is P50,000 plus trophy; Best Choreographer is P20,000 plus trophy; and Best in Costume is P20,000 plus trophy.
